  	Archie Hendrix: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice Savannah Morning News (GA) - March 23, 2001 Deceased Name: Archie Hendrix CLAXTON -- Archie Hendrix, 80 , died March 22 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. The Evans County native was a member, deacon and clerk of Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and chairman of the Evans County Board of Education for 24 years. He was past vice president and member of the Evans County Farm Bureau, a member of the Wildlife Club and a VFW member. He was awarded Farm Family of the Year in 1965 and Man of the Year in Soil Conservation in 1980. He was past president and active vice president of Canoochee Transport Inc. SURVIVORS: his wife, Oveta Hendrix of Claxton; two sons, Larry Hendrix of Lithia Springs and Andy Hendrix of Claxton; a daughter, Joyce Thomas of Bethlehem; four brothers, Hubert, Sammy and Delmas Hendrix of Claxton and Jim Hendrix Jr. of Shellman's Bluff; a sister, Cleta McCorkle of Statesboro; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. VISITATION: will begin at 6 p.m. today at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton. FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home, burial in Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
