  	Howard Jacob Callahan, 78, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Suwannee Valley Haven Hospice after an extended illness. Mr. Callahan was born on January 3, 1935 in Lake Whales, FL, to the late John and Ida Callahan. Mr. Callahan was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Columbia County Road Department for many years. Mr. Callahan was also an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Callahan is preceded in death by his wife: Juanita Callahan; his daughter: Becky Wilder; two brothers: Willard and Mack Callahan; and his two sisters: Gladys Robinson and Lola Mae Lewis. Mr. Callahan is survived by his son: Kenneth "Ken" Callahan (Connie) of Lake City; daughters: Rhonda Porter (Gary) of Macon, GA and Teresa Wilkerson (Robert) of Ocala; special friend and cousin: Bobby Callahan (Barbara) of Lake City. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Callahan will be conducted at 1 P.M. on Thursday January 2, 2013 in the chapel of Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday evening January 1, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the Suwannee Valley Haven Hospice, 6037 W US Highway 90, Lake City, FL 32055. Arrangements are under the care of Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home, 458 S. Marion Ave., Lake City, FL, 32025.
