- Charles "Willis" Duren, (86) returned to his Heavenly Father on the 31st of March, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Winford Duren and Olla Rebecca Duren; 4 brothers, Odest, Seeber, Leonard & Alvin; 2 sisters, Betty Williams & Audrey Callahan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rachel Colson Duren. Willis and Rachel have 4 children, Connie Williams (Kelly), Julie Dailey (Lin), Charles Duren Jr. (Valerie) and Gary Duren. Their posterity includes 4 grandchildren, BriAnna McGehee, Troy Williams (Joy), Eric Williams (Amyee) and Sarah-Anne Duren and 8 great grandchildren all living within the Jacksonville area.
Willis was born in Okahumpka, FL. on the 15th of May, 1927. At the age of 7 he and his family moved to Fort White, FL. which he called home. He honorably served his country in the 1st calvary division during World War II. He married Rachel, the love of his life on October 31, 1953. The family moved to Jacksonville where Willis worked for the Department of Transportation for 42 years as they raised their family. Brother Duren was a faithful lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, April 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home located at 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL. Funeral
Services will be held on Friday, April 4th at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4087 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake Butler, FL. at 3pm.
