3655 To Richard Michael Blalock:

I have done an extensive search for a death record on James Henry Blalock. As I told you the other day on the phone, the record is not on file here in Evans County. I contacted the State Vital Records Office in Atlanta, where all original records are kept and there is no record of his death ever being on file there. They even search 5 years before and after the date I gave them. This means either that for some reason, the funeral home never filed a death record or he died in another state. I did find time to research the newspaper. I did find his obituary in THE CLAXTON ENTERPRISE, in the Thursday, Ocotber 30, 1941 edition.
It read as follows:

James Henry Blalock, age 61, died suddenly at 11:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Surviviors are his wife, Mrs. James Rogers Blalock; one son, James Allen Blalock, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; three daughters, Mrs. Freddie Sikes, Ludowici; Mrs. Ruby Branch, Glennville; Miss Maudene Blalock, Daisy. Funeral Will be held from the Bull Creek Baptist Church Friday at 11:00 a.m. Burial in the church cemetery. NeSmith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

I made a copy of the obituary and will be happy to mail it to you if you will send me an address. I did check with this funeral home and they were not able to locate a file. If the obituary is correct, then his date of death was 10/29/41.

I appreciate the information that you sent and will try to look at it closer a little later.
