CLAXTON - Stella D. Powell, 92, passed away September 11, 2009, at her home.

She was born in Bellville and was the last surviving child of Mr. and Mrs. Olin H. Daniel.

She married the late John W. Powell and worked as his secretary for the Savannah Morning News for 43 years.

She was a member of the Claxton United Methodist Church, where she served as organist for 40 plus years, UMC and the Service Sunday School Class.

She served as a Pink Lady for many years and was a devoted wife and mother.

Survivors: one son and daughter-in-law, John W. Powell, Jr., (Sheryl) of Newport Richey, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Downs (Jerry) of Savannah; six grandchildren, Windy Blocker, Kevin Downs, Preshia Watson, Jake Powell, Jennifer Brantley and Josh Powell; 11 great-grandchildren, Abby, April, Chance, Michael, Brittany, Mathew, Hannah, Wade, Allie, Stella Rae and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Saturday, Sept. 12, 6:00 p.m., until at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.

Funeral: Sunday, Sept. 13, 2:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial: Daniel-Smith-Tippins Cemetery, Bellville, Ga.
