    CLAXTON - Betty Hodges Powell, 83, died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at her home.

    Survivors are her husband of 58 years, Bernice Powell; two daughters Dianne (Jimmy) Morris and Patti Powell all of Claxton; a sister, Ouida Daniels of Bellville; two grandchildren, Laci (Daniel) McEachin and Brandon Boyette; and a great-grandson, Austin McEachin all of Claxton.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.

    Visitation will be Monday, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Betty Hodges Powell, 83, of Claxton died Saturday, March 22, 2014, at her home. The Evans County native and lifelong resident was the daughter of Edgar Lee and Katie Hendley Hodges. She was a 1952 graduate of Claxton High School and a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church. Betty was a homemaker, wonderful wife and mother who was devoted to the care of her youngest daughter, Patti, who has Down’s syndrome. Her yards and flowers were her passion. She loved sewing and gospel music, following her husband, Bernice, while singing with the Hymnsmen for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James Hodges.

    Survivors are her husband of 58 years, Bernice Powell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dianne and Jimmy Morris and Patti Powell all of Claxton; a sister, Ouida (Charles) Daniels of Bellville; two grandchildren, Laci (Daniel) McEachin and Brandon Boyette; a great grandson, Austin McEachin all of Claxton; several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 pm, at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Rogers and Elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 5:30-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Taylor Boyette, Terry Callaway, Billy Hill, Stan Hill, Mark Tootle and Don Powell.
