Mr. Isaac Houston Bass III (Houston) passed into glory on September 29, 2017.
This devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend was born on June 26, 1938 in Jackson, MS.
Houston was a graduate of Lumberton High School in 1956, and Mississippi State University in 1961.
He worked for several years as Vice President of Bass Pecan Company, a family business started by his great-grandfather. Later he was self-employed as owner of I. H. Bass & Co.
Houston was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the Lumberton Lions Club for many years.
He married the love of his life and best friend Susan Finch on October 24, 1964 in Hattiesburg, MS.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lumberton for many years. He and Susan moved to Hattiesburg in 1989 and became members of First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg.
He absolutely loved photography, and left his family a lifetime of slides, Polaroids, prints and digital images to remember great family vacations, special occasions and ordinary days. He was a huge fan of Paul Harvey and technology (so much he named his dog Gizmo). He was an incredibly positive, encouraging person who loved his Lord and enjoyed people, reading and learning -- and passed on these traits and loves to his family.
His life’s passions were his family, friends and loved ones. After attending the millionth event for Susan’s Hattiesburg High Class of 1959, he became an adopted member.
Houston loved his community and country, serving as a Lieutenant in the US Army from college graduation to 1963, and he virtually never missed an opportunity to vote or give blood. He spent many nights in the concession stand in Lumberton serving at football and Little League games with the Lions Club, and served on the school board for Lumberton Schools.
He was preceded in death by his father Isaac Houston Bass Jr., his mother Edith Ellen Brown Bass, and his step-father Carl J. Peck.
His surviving loved ones are his wife of 52 years - Susan Finch Bass,
his brother - Claude Bass (wife Eve), and
children - Isaac Houston Bass IV (wife, Sandy), James Carl Bass, David Carlton Bass (wife, Marci), and Mary Helen Bass (husband, Alex Deli).
He is also survived by his grandchildren - Kayla Elizabeth Bass, Cara Nicole Bass, and Houston Stewart Bass - of Suwanee, Georgia; and Garrison Riley Bass and Amelie Amira Bass - of Bellingham, Washington.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 7. Visitation will be at Moore Funeral Home, 805 Hardy Street, Hattiesburg MS from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, and services will be at 3:00 pm, followed by graveside at Lumberton City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family also welcomes donations to these organizations:
