    Notes:

James Cason made his will 5 Feb 1720 and named William the executor of the estate "boath within doores and without." from North Carolina Genealogical Library Vertical file, p. 2 0f letter from Ruby Cason Iliff to E. L. Williams.

James Cason, the ancestor of most, if not all, of the Casons of Wiregrass Georgia and North Florida, was born in Lynn Haven Parish, Lower Norfolk Plantation, now Princess Ann County, Virginia, about 1657. He was the only son of Thomas Cason, Jr. and grandson of Thomas Cason, Sr. who migrated to Lynn Haven Parish from England prior to 1635.

Thomas Cason, Sr. was born in 1604, possibly in London, England, although his family seems to have originated in Hertfordshire, England. He was a Church Warden in Lynn Haven and was a successful tobacco planter. He died from in 1651 leaving a widow, Elizabeth, and three minor children; James, Thomas, Jr. and Ruth, who married Thomas Woodhouse. James and Thomas, Jr., both young married men, died in 1665. James died without issue, but Thomas left one small son, James, the subject of this sketch.

James first appears in the records buying land in 1686. He was a large and prosperous tobacco farmer. His wife was named Ann, maiden name unknown. She predeceased him.

James made his will in 1720 which was probated in 1722. The following children were named in his will: Thomas, James, Jr., Elizabeth, Susannah, Dynah, and William.

Thomas died testate in Princess Ann County in 1737. James, Jr. died there testate in 1761. The daughter, Susannah, had a son named Cason Moore.

The youngest son, William, was administrator of James Cason's will and, after closing out the estate, sold out and moved to Beaufort County, North Carolina, and lived there in the part cut into Pitt County in 1764. (See Vol. VII)
