DOUGLAS Robert Wayne Douglas, 73, loving husband, father, and brother, died unexpectedly on May 16, 2015, and was welcomed into his eternal home in Heaven. Wayne was born to Robert Earl Douglas and Mary Louise Musselwhite in Jacksonville, Florida on November 3, 1941.

He was brought to saving faith and baptized as a child at Beaver Street Baptist Church. Wayne attended Robert E. Lee high school and was a member of the 1959 graduating class. After high school Wayne joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Pakistan at a telemetry listening post which monitored the early Soviet Union space program. During the 1963 Cuban missile crisis he was stationed temporarily in the Florida Keys to monitor Soviet/Cuban telecommunication.

After leaving the Air Force he used his GI benefits and worked part time to support himself while attending Jacksonville University where he graduated with a BS in Business Administration. Upon graduation he was employed as a purchasing agent for the school board of Palm Beach County before accepting the position of purchasing manager at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. While working at the hospital he obtained his Master's Degree in Materials Management from Florida State University and retired from the hospital in 1998 as the Director of Materials Management.

Wayne was a member of First Coast Baptist Church where he regularly attended Sunday school and worship services. Wayne had a deep and profound faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his irrepressible positive attitude, his stoic approach to difficulties, his infectious smile and laugh, and his beautiful, quirky sense of humor. He was a unique gift from God. The emptiness his passing leaves in the hearts of those who knew and loved him may remain unfilled this side of Heaven. He was deeply loved. He will be deeply missed.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Helen Hy; his son, Jason and wife Shannon; his step-daughters, Kristy Cortner, and Kimberlee Cortner; his step-son Christopher Cortner and wife Heidi; grandchildren, Casey Stewart, Todd Douglas, Lindsey Douglas, Kaydie McDade, and Christian McDade; sisters, Barbara Gales, Janice (Craig) O'Dell, Debbie (George) Larkin, Cindy Clark, and Susan (Terry) Thompson; brothers, Wesley (Gail) and Clifford (Carol); and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Patricia Provau, Kathy Casper, and Josephine Varnadore.

Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 22, 2015 at First Coast Baptist Church, 7587 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL with Rev. Richard Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. Family members will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Fund at First Coast Baptist Church.
