    Ann Gellerstedt Turlington

    Ann Gellerstedt Turlington of Durham, N.C., and formerly of Gainesville, died Dec. 20 at Crowsdaile Pavilion Retirement Center in Durham. She was 82.

    Mrs. Turlington was the wife of Ralph D. Turlington Sr., a former state representative, Speaker of the House and commissioner of education for Florida. She was born in Troy, Ala., and moved to Durham from Tallahassee in 1999. She was a retired teacher and homemaker. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College, and received a master's degree from Emory University. She was a Baptist.

    She was an avid reader of Chaucer and enjoyed speaking Chaucerian English. In addition to teaching, she was involved in charitable work and taught life-saving courses.

    Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ralph D. Turlington Sr. of Durham, N.C.; a son, Ralph D. Turlington Jr. of Westfield, N.J.; a daughter, Katherine Turlington of Durham; a brother, Wright Gellerstedt of Atlanta; and two grandchildren.
