    Mrs. Ruth Nutting Wilkes died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91 on Sunday, August 5, 2012 after a brief illness at the Pine Pointe Hospice of Central Georgia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in the chapel of Vineville United Methodist Church, with Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street. Mrs. Wilkes was born June 28, 1921 in Macon, Georgia, to parents Mr. John Boifeuillet Nutting and Mrs. Ruth Randolph Lyon Nutting. Mrs. Wilkes was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School in Macon and attended college at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. During World War II she worked as a draftsperson at Warner Robins Air Force Base. She married Mr. Julian Clyde Wilkes on March 21, 1947 in Macon at the home of her parents. She worked at The Rosery florist in downtown Macon, which was owned by her brother John B. Nutting, Jr., for many years. Mrs. Wilkes was a great-great-grandniece of the well-known artist, furniture designer, and author Wallace Nutting of New England. Mrs. Wilkes was a long-time member of Vineville Methodist Church and a member of the Ed Cook Sunday School class. More recently, she lived in St. Simons Island, Georgia, where she was a member of St. Simons United Methodist Church. She was known as a gracious hostess and a dedicated and loving mother. She was considered a world-class cook by all who had the pleasure of dining at her table. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother and sister, Mr. John B. Nutting, Jr, and Mrs. Carilee Nutting Deaton; and by her husband of 60 years Mr. Julian Clyde Wilkes. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Theresa Wilkes Bass (Christy Bowman) of Macon, Mrs. Julie Wilkes Jones (John) of San Jose, California, and Mr. Julian Clyde Wilkes, Jr. (Ellen York) of St. Simons Island Georgia; four grandchildren, Mrs. Laurie Bass Parkerson (David), Mrs. Lason Bass Jump (Michael), Mr. Matthew Bradley Jones, and Mr. Stephen Merritt Jones; and by one great granddaughter, Hannah Adilyn Parkerson. She also leaves behind her faithful canine companion Millie. Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or donations may be made to the Hospice of Central Georgia or to the donor’s favorite charity.
