    Regimental History
    FIFTH FLORIDA INFANTRY REGIMENT.

    The 5th Florida Regiment was organized in 1862, and mustered
    into service with J. C, Hately as Colonel; Thompson B. Lamar as
    Lieutenant-Colonel; B. F. Davis as Major; Capt. W. H. Baker as
    Quartermaster, and Capt. R. W. Reed as Commissary.

    The companies were commanded by Captains:

    John Frink (Co. F)

    Immediately upon its organization the Regiment was ordered to
    Virginia, where it joined the 2nd Florida, being assigned to
    Pryor's Brigade; with which it took part in the Second Battle
    of Manassas and in the Maryland campaign and won distinction at
    Sharpsburg.

    After the return from Maryland the 5th was brigaded with the
    other Florida regiments and became a part of Perry's immortal
    brigade, surrendering at Appomattox Court House with but 6
    officers and 47 men, the only representatives left for duty at
    that time of a magnificent regiment.

    Notes:

    The earliest known residence of Oliver Waldron was Bryan County where he was married and living in the 1820 census. He and his brother, David Waldron, moved to Ware County (now Pierce) soon after Ware was formed out of Appling County. Oliver Waldron's home was located about two miles northeastward from where Blackshear now is. About 1845 he moved to Columbia County, Florida, and afterwards about 1853 to Marion County, Florida. He died November 6, 1867, at his home at Suwannee Shoals, Florida. His wife survived and made her home with her son, Jesse, spending her last years in Manatee County, Florida.

    Oliver Waldron served as Justice of Peace, 584th district of Ware County, 1831-33, and as Justice of Ware Inferior Court, 1837-1841. He served in the War of 1812 and the Indian War. He enlisted January 18, 1815 in Bryan County, as private under Captain James Bird in Col. Mann's regiment, Georgia militia, and served until March 2, 1815 when he was honorably discharged. He served as private in Captain James A. Sweat's company of the Ware County militia, June 9th to August 19, 1838 in the Indian War. His widow was granted a pension for this service, in 1870.
