Mr. Robert W. Shannon Jr., "Rock", age 82 of Yulee, FL passed away on Thursday evening, October 13, 2016 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Jacksonville under the care of Community Hospice.

Born in Jacksonville, FL he was the eldest of three children born to the late Robert Walter Shannon Sr. and Ailene Roundtree Shannon. Mr. Shannon grew up in the Riverview section on the northside of Jacksonville and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. After high school Mr. Shannon followed in his father's footsteps and learned the trade as a Shipfitter. He worked at Jacksonville Shipyards for many years before its closing and his joining Atlantic Drydock and Marine on Hecksher Drive. He retired from Atlantic Drydock.

He married Lureeta Dicks in 1962 and remained in Riverview, where they began and raised their family, until moving to Yulee in 1979.

Mr. Shannon enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading westerns and mysteries.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Lureeta D. Shannon, children, Daniel Shannon and his wife, Patty, Jacksonville, FL, Terri Taylor and her husband, Roger, St. George, GA, Michael Shannon and his wife, Sharon, Mandarin, FL, Eva Shannon Coffey, Yulee, FL, Jessie Shannon and his wife, Shanna, Yulee, FL, a brother, Johnny Shannon (Vivian), Jacksonville, FL, Betty Shannon (Lauralynn), Yulee, FL, grandchildren, Brian Shannon, Jason Shannon (Samantha), Roger Taylor, Robert Taylor (Ashley), Sarah Ann Chandler (Brad), Mark Griffin, Amber Coffey, Hayley Shannon, Destiny Shannon, great grandchildren, D.J. Shannon, Evan Harden, Chase and Madison Taylor, Jacob, Jesse and J.B. Taylor, Trinity and Eva Griffin.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley Heard with Bishop Carter, officiating.

Mr. Shannon will be laid to rest in Hughes Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 � 7:00 pm at Oxley Heard.

Lureeta Dicks Shannon, age 82, beloved wife of the late, Robert W. Rock Shannon, affectionately known as Susie, completed her journey in this mortal life on May 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Riverside Hospice surrounded by her family. Susie was born on June 19, 1934 in Lulu, Florida to the late Jessie and Eva Dicks.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Walter Shannon, Jr. This year would have been their 55th wedding anniversary. Together they had three children, Michael Shannon (Sharon), Eva Shannon Coffey and Jessie Shannon (Shanna). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Mark Griffin, Amber Coffey, Hayley Shannon, Destiny Shannon, and Sarah Chandler, and two great grandchildren, Trinity Griffin and Eva Griffin. She loved them unconditionally with the tenderness only a mother and grandmother could have. They were her greatest joy and she considered it her greatest calling in life. Nothing was more important than their happiness. She is also survived by her brothers Wallace Dicks (Merle) and Jimmie Dicks (Mable).

Sister Shannon, a title she cherished, also experienced great joy in the service of others by following and emulating the life of Christ. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and treasured serving in the Relief Society and teaching Primary children about Heavenly Father and His son.

She loved to garden. Her sons, Mike and Jessie, claims she could plant a stick and it would grow. Eva, her daughter, said that her mother had so many fruit trees that you could eat your way around her house. Cooking was also a passion and found great pleasure watching friends and family enjoy the meals she created.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate her past life and the new one she now enjoys on the other side of the veil. Visitation and viewing will be Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 10 to 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2800 S. 14th St. Fernandina Beach. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the chapel with Bishop Dave Carter officiating and Elder Ron Miller assisting. Mrs. Shannon will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hughes Cemetery.
