    Died:
    Mr. Roy Dicks, Jr., age 88, of Lake City, Florida died peacefully at his residence on Friday, June 1, with his family at his bedside.

    He was a fourth generation pioneer Columbia county family, having resided in Lake City all of his life. He was an educator in the local school system for 37 years, having taught 7th grade math for 11 years and was principal of Melrose Elementary School for 26 years. He also was a part time minister of The Church of Christ and worked with congregations in Macclenny, Lake Butler, High Springs, Live Oak, Mayo, Perry, Burlington/Sante Fe, Lake City and Bell, Florida, and held his membership at the Lake City Church of Christ.

    He was a graduate of Mason City High School, a graduate of Florida College, Tampa, Florida and obtained his Master’s Degree from Florida State University in 1958.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Cochran Dicks and his parents, Roy and Mable Roberts Dicks, Sr.

    He is survived by his daughter, Cherie (Ray) Hill and his son, Steven Dicks both of Lake City, Florida: Two sisters, Marcelean Haver of Atlanta, Georgia and Pat Lester of Valdosta, Georgia: Grandchildren , Blake Dicks of Lake Butler, Fla., Jodi England of Anaheim, Ca., Brad Dicks of Lake Butler, Fla., Sarah Jordan of Brentwood, TN., Garrett Hill of Jacksonville, Fla. and Caleb Hill of Lake City, Fla.: Eight great-grandchildren also survive.

    A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Dicks will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 5, in the Lake City Church of Christ with Minister Brandon Britton officiating.

    Interment will be in Hopeful Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida.

    Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 4, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida. www.guerryfuneralhome.net.

    Mrs. Norma Jean Dicks, age 85, of Lake City, Florida died Wednesday, June 22, at her home following and extended illness.

    She was born in Jacksonville, Florida and resided in Farmington, Kentucky before moving to Lake City, Florida in 1951. She was a homemaker and private real estate investor and enjoyed gardening, quilting and sewing. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1948 in Farmington, Kentucky, received her A.A. degree from Lake City Community College and a member of the Lake City Church of Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester B. and Carrie Sission Cochran and her sister, Carolyn Thurmond.

    She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Roy Dicks of Lake City, Florida: Her daughter, Cherie (Ray) Hill of Lake City, Florida: Her son, Steven Dicks of Lake City, Florida: One brother, Milton Cochran of Mayfield, Kentucky: One sister, Margie Taylor of Owensboro, Kentucky: Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Dicks will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, June 25, in the Lake City Church of Christ with Minister Brandon Britton officiating.

    Interment will be in Hopeful Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida.
