    Obituary for Lt. Richard G. Dick Tillman

    Lt. Col. Richard G. "Dick" Tillman, U.S. Army (Ret.), age 82, 1202 Michigan Ave., Elizabethton, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at his residence following a brief illness.

    A native of New Jersey, he had lived in Carter County since 1981. He was the son of the late Colley G. and Nellie Pearle Mallard Tillman. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. He was retired from the U.S. Army in 1967 having served 23 years and served in the following wars, World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of D.A.V. and was Director of Human Resources at Brevard Community College, Cocoa, FL, and also taught at Tusculum College. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Edwards Tillman, 1966 and brother, Joseph E. Tillman.

    Survivors include his wife, Janice Hill Tillman, of the home, two daughters, Cassie Tillman, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Michelle Menown, Jupiter, FL, three sons, Michael Tillman, Elizabethton, Joseph Tillman, Vancover, British Columbia, Richard Tillman, Charleston, SC, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, special friends, Danny and Pete, Donna Miller, Richard C., Leon Stearns and Maxwell King and special fishing buddy, Dr. T.

    The Celebration of Life service will be conducted Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace with Rev. Jim Lindsay and Pastor Bruce DeVoe officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service or friends may also call at the residence anytime.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Full Military honors to be accorded by TN Army National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Hill, Herman Mallard and Bill Tillman. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon on Monday, May 1 to go in procession to the cemetery.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Wes Hanson and Roan Mountain Medical Center, Adventa Hospice, Doctors, nurses and staff of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital and friends of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain and Anna Deal.
