    Wendell Scott Davis, 43 of Supply, died Monday, July 28, 2014.

    Mr. Davis was born in New Hanover County on Sept. 23, 1970, and was the son of Wendell and Diane Varnam Davis.

    He is survived by his mother, Diane V. Davis; two daughters, Allison Blair Davis and Alexis Diane Davis of Supply; and maternal grandparents, the Rev. Weston and Mary Varnam of Supply.

    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Gospel Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Foyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Gospel Center Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

    Rev. Weston Varnam, 98, 45-year Baptist minister known for his expertise in boat building

    Rev. Weston Varnam, of Supply, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at his home. He was 98.

    Mr. Varnam was born in Brunswick County on July 15, 1917, and was the son of the late Johnny and Katie Caison Varnam. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during WWII. Mr. Varnam was a Baptist minister for 45 years. After serving as a full-time pastor, he served as an interim pastor for several years.

    He was well known for his expertise in boat building and shared that passion with many people with his building of shrimp boat replicas. He was also known for his help with building homes in his community. He was a very generous man and enjoyed helping others unselfishly.

    He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Varnam; children, Dusty Varnam and wife Jo Ann, of Supply and Diane Lynn Davis, of Supply; grandchildren, Weston Matthew Varnam, Meredith Varnam Sullivan and husband Kevin and Richard and Ryan Ward; and great-grandchildren, Alexis and Allison Davis and Brian Sullivan.

    He was preceded in death by his grandsons, Ryan and Scott Davis; brothers, Eddie Varnam, Hoyle Varnam, Clyde Varnam and Johnny Varnam; and sisters, Zelma Phillips, Lula Sullivan, Vera Robbins and Ruth Caison.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Gospel Center Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Foyd Bennett and the Rev. Anthony Clemmons officiating. Burial will follow at Gospel Center Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.

    Pallbearers will be James Arthur Robbins, John Galloway, Danny Galloway, Kevin Caison, Danny Fulford and Michael Caison. Honorary pallbearers will be Ennis Swain, Richard Edge, Phillip Thomas and Harold D. Varnam.
