    Evelyn Strickland Coppage, 93, of Valdosta died Friday, April 11, 2014 at South Georgia Medical Center.

    She was born in Quitman on February 3, 1921 to the late Hammond Hoke and Molly Meadows Strickland and was a lifelong resident of this area.

    Mrs. Coppage was a active member and worker in the Baptist Church for most of her life and loved the Lord. After she raised her family she enrolled at Valdosta State College and earned her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education to pursue her career in teaching. She retired as a first grade teacher at S. L. Mason Elementary School, a career that she loved. Mrs. Coppage loved to read and was active in teaching reading in the Migrant Worker program and Adult Literacy. She was proud that she never had a student that she was not able to teach to read. Mrs. Coppage was active in the redecorating of the Crescent and active in the garden clubs.

    Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Susan and Ed Havird of Lake Park, son and daughter in law, Stan, Jr. and Joyce Coppage of Valdosta, four grandchildren, Mark (Honey) Coppage, Kyle (Maria) Coppage, Clif Coppage and Claire (Bo) Edmonds, five great grandchildren, Tyler Coppage, Austin Edmonds, Ansley Edmonds, Benjamin Coppage and Thomas Coppage, her sister and brother in law, Ann and Tom Byrne of New Hampshire.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Coppage, Sr. her brother, Roy Strickland and a sister, Emma Ruth Berlin.

    Graveside services will be held at 11am, Monday, April 14, 2014 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Ward officiating.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.

    Robert A. Lester Jr.

    Robert A. Lester Jr., 84, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at his home.

    He was born Dec. 3, 1929 in Valdosta, a son of the late Robert A. and Letha Copeland Lester. He graduated from Dasher Bible School and attended Emory Jr. College. Mr. Lester opened Radio Clinic, later moving and operating Lester's Appliances on N. Ashley St., Valdosta; he had been in business for fifty years. He enjoyed farming and loved his cows.

    Mr. Lester had been a Deacon at Central Avenue Church of Christ, a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ, and was currently a member at Dasher Church of Christ; his family's church where he had met his wife in Sunday School when he was 16 years old and she was 14. He had also served on the Board of Directors of Georgia Christian School.

    He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pat Lester of Valdosta; their three children, Robert A. Lester III, PhD (Kitty) of Sewanee, Tenn., Patricia "Joyce" Coppage (Stan, Jr.) of Valdosta, and Doug Lester (Peggy) of Lake Park; 11 grandchildren, Robert Lester, IV, MD (Jill) of Calhoun, Josh Lester (Rachel) of Huntsville, Ala., Jeff Lester (Ashley) of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Tiffanni Bradford (Jonathan) of Warner Robins, Mark Coppage (Honey) of Valdosta, Kyle Coppage (Maria) of Valdosta, Clifton Coppage of Valdosta, Claire Edmonds (Bo) of Milledgeville, Lauren Bewley (Bo) of Valdosta, Zack Lester of Roswell, and Paige Lester of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; and 19 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral service for Mr. Lester will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Dasher Church of Christ, with Mr. Bill Long, Mr. David Nelson and Mr. Johnny Lightsey officiating. Interment will follow in Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
