    Leo Milton
    (September 28, 1926 - July 6, 2014)

    Mr. Leo Milton, 87, of Lake City, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning July 6, 2014 at the Suwannee Valley Haven Hospice surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was born on September 28, 1926 in Columbia County to the late Robert Mallory Milton and Frances Melton Milton. He grew up and lived all of his life in Columbia County and owned and operated several businesses; He owned the Gulf Station and Sinclair Stations in Lake City as well as Milton Appliance. When he was younger he loved to play fast pitch softball; he loved to fish and hunt. He also loved to be in his garden and farmed some as well. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and was a Navy World War II veteran; he also was a member of the American Legion.

    He is preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years: Celesta Johns Milton of Lake City; two sons: Robert L. Milton (Judi Hebert) of Gainesville and Jay W. Milton (Debbie) of Lake City; daughter: Terri M. Milton (Bruce Weeks) of Lake City; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

    Graveside funeral services for Mr. Milton will be conducted on Wednesday July 9, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Eddie Blalock officiating. Interment will follow.

    Mrs. Celesta Johns Milton, 91, a lifelong resident of Columbia County, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, October 2, 2016 at her daughters’ residence.

    The daughter of the late Claudie and Maude Skinner Johns, Mrs. Milton was educated in the Columbia County School System having graduated from Columbia High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida. She taught for sixteen years at the Kindergarten Center with then Principal Earl Watts prior to retiring. Mrs. Milton enjoyed working in her flower gardens, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She was a member of The Garden Club of Lake City and the First Baptist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Mr. Leo Milton.

    She is survived by her daughter, Terri M. Milton of Lake City; two sons, Robert L. “Robin” Milton (Judi A. Hebert) of Gainesville, Florida; and Jay W. Milton (Debbie) of Lake City; and a brother, Drew “Ted” Johns (Sarah) of Lake City, Florida. Her grandchildren, Garrett Osburn, Catherine Milton, Amanda Hebert, Shelby Milton, Melissa Hebert, Jessica Friar, Alex Milton, Annie Milton and her great-grand daughter, Miley Milton also survive.

    Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Milton will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Memorial Cemetery.

    There will be no visitation prior to the service however the family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Milton’s daughter, Terri M. Milton(1634 SW CR 242A) immediately following the burial.

    The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley, 6037 US Hwy 90 West, Lake City, FL 32055.

    Following an extended illness, John Russell North, Sr. 76, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida, surrounded by loving family, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Russell was born on January 5, 1942, in Lake City, Florida. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1960 and while in high school he joined the U.S. Navy Reserves and served from 1959-1961 on the U.S.S Kitty Hawk. He met his wife and the love of his life, Jean Bullard North, whom he married on June 21, 1962.

    He worked for W.K Daughtery Engineering Firm, where he was employed for 13 years. He became a General Contractor and founded Russell North Construction, which he ran for 40+ years. Russell North designed and constructed several beautiful custom homes and commercial buildings within the Lake City and North Florida area. In 1984, Russell North was awarded Best Commercial Building of the year by Ceco-Mitchell Building Systems for the construction of an automobile dealership, Power’s Service in Lake City, Florida. He received this top honor out of 500 other builders. In addition, he was honored by Ceco in 1988 for reaching $1-million in cumulative sales volume.

    Russell was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Rotary Club. He served on the Columbia County of Commissioners Planning and Zoning Board for several years. He enjoyed watching football and cheering on the Florida Gators. He enjoyed cooking and eating a good meal, Italian food was a favorite. He loved projects like gardening and building furniture. His greatest achievement to him, was raising a loving family. He enjoyed vacationing with them every summer to the beach and spending time with them in the Smoky Mountains.

    Predeceased by his mother, Dell Thomas North, and his father, John Roy North, Russell is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Jean Bullard North; his daughter Debbie North Milton (Jay); his son Rusty North, and daughter Marissa North Adamson (Mark). He is additionally survived by his dear grandchildren, Jessie Milton Friar (Brock), Alex Milton, Annie Milton, Jack Adamson and Josie Adamson. He is also survived by his sister Betty Spradley (Shuffield) and his brother Emerson North (Cindy).

    Funeral service of Mr. North will be conducted at 1:00pm, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at First Methodist Church Lake City with Rev. Don Hembree officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Church fellowship hall. Private family Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery. Visitation with the family and friends will be held from 6:00- 8:00pm, Friday, February 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
