Mr. Donald Reese “Don” Wilkes, 74, husband of Nancy Thornhill Wilkes, died Friday, September 9, 2011, at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Wilkes was born December 8, 1936, in Florence County, a son of the late Press and Hannah Miles Wilkes. He graduated from Florence County schools and was retired from law enforcement. Don served as a policeman with the Lake City Police Department and later as chief deputy for three different sheriffs with the Williamsburg Sheriff’s Department.
Surviving in addition to his wife Nancy, of Kingstree are: his children, Donna (Clay) Matthews, Linda (Samuel David) Hanniford, Vicki (Randy II) Haselden, Kenny (Renita) Wilkes, Allen (Kim) Wilkes, and Terry (Tammy) Wilkes, all of Kingstree, David (Linda) Wilkes, of Ladson, Tony (Karen) Wilkes, of Pamplico, and Linda (John) Whitaker, of Rocky Mount, NC; a brother Bob Wilkes, of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Special thanks go to special friend Brandon McGee and special niece Casey Gause, and for all the help from Hospice Care of SC.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 11, 2011, in the Second Baptist Church of Kingstree, with burial in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Williamsburg Funeral Home.

Mary Ann Knotts Wilkes, 73, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in a Kingstree hospital. Ms. Knotts was born April 6, 1936, in Lamar, SC, a daughter of Leon and Ann Mixon Knotts. She was a graduate of Lamar High School and was retired from Warsaw Manufacturing as a seamstress. In addition to her parents, Ms. Wilkes was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Knotts.
Surviving are: her children, David (Linda) Wilkes of Ladson, SC, Kenny (Renita) Wilkes, of Kingstree, Tony (Karen) Wilkes, of Pamplico, Linda (Samuel D. ) Hanniford of Kingstree, Terry (Tammy) Wilkes, of Cades, Allen (Kim) Wilkes, of Kingstree, and Vicki (Randy) Haselden, of Greeleyville; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 3 sisters, Margaret Stone of Kingstree, Pearl Britt, of Kingstree, and Faye Walker of Florence; 3 brothers, L.J. Knotts, Larry Knotts and Marshall Knotts, all of Lamar.
Funeral services will be 3:30 P.M. Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Second Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M.
