Voyles Family Reunion in Live Oak - July 15-16th

Jacob Voyles and his family migrated to America from Wales through Charleston, SC in 1755. Their son, William, a boy of fourteen, was indentured to the ship's Captain for four years to pay off the debt for the cost of the family's trip to America. They obtained land grants in North Georgia, South Carolina and Western North Carolina. Many of the sons Fought in the American Revolutionary War, and some 100 years later many of the descendants fought for the Confederacy.

After the Civil War, Perry Voyles, a descendant of Jacob, and his family trekked, via ox cart, from Hall County, Georgia, to Florida; ultimately, settling in Suwannee County where they obtained a land grant, and farmed to support their large family.

Kennard Voyles of Ocala, President of the Voyles Family Association, said the descendants of Perry Voyles are meeting in Live Oak on July 15-16th for the Annual Family Reunion. Ken, born and raised in Suwannee County, said that family members are now scattered all over the globe; and those attending the reunion will be coming from Utah, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia, as well as Florida.

The meeting on Friday (July 15th) will involve comparing notes/records and genealogical research in the Family History Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Voyles said, "The last words spoken in the Old Testament is an indication of the importance of researching family history and we are fortunate to have so many in our family who have literally turned their hearts to their fathers." "And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse." Malachi 4:6

On Saturday the group will meet for lunch and socializing in the Cultural Hall of the LDS Church, where they will be welcomed by Ken Voyles, and each family group will be allowed to stand and report on the status of their family.
