    Jim Robinson

    Jim Robinson, 87, of 376 Sharon School Road, Statesville, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

    Mr. Robinson was born Feb. 22, 1921, in White Springs, Fla., and was the son of the late Lemuel Robinson and Addie Melton Robinson Bryant.

    He attended school in Lake City, Fla., and studied city management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and then served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He served as a flight engineer for 15 years and as a diesel engineer. He served in Florida in the Air Force in the first squadron entering Camp Springs Army Air Base, later served at Andrews Air Force Base, Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Okinawa Air Force Base and Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, and the Strategic Air Command in Mountain Home, Idaho, where he retired.

    He was married in Washington, D.C., on June 7, 1946, to Evelyn Gertrude Stewart Robinson, who survives. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Mr. Robinson is survived by a daughter, Peggy Evelyn Robinson of Statesville; four grandsons, James Stephen Robinson (Angela) of Statesville, Rodney Gene Robinson (Cindy) of Statesville, Joseph Stewart Robinson (Kendra) of Troutman, David Andrew Robinson (Crissy) of Statesville; a granddaughter, Evelyn Christine Kestler (Kevin) of Statesville; and 15 great-grandchildren.

    Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth, Bertha, Eva and Lonnie Mae, and by five brothers, John, Fitzhugh, Marshall, Kirby and Ervin, and a son-in-law, Conley Leon Snipes.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Gene Bruce officiating.

    Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside Masonic Rites and full military honors.

    The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 Tuesday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home.

    Memorials may be made to Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2116 Island Ford Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
