    Jesup--Roger Layton Crews, 53, of Jesup died Aug. 29, 2006, in Memorial Medical Center in Savannah of an apparent heart attack.

    The former resident of Fernandina Beach, Fla., had lived in Wayne County since 1957. He was a member of Jesup First Baptist Church, a retired Electrical Supervisor with Rayonier, a charter member of IBEW LU 1545, Masonic Lodge No. 112, Alee Shrine, and the Huxford Genealogy Society of Homerville. He was an avid granddaddy, genealogist and historian.

    He was predeceased by his father, Merle Crews.

    Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Joyce Arnette Crews of Jesup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger and Bryan Crews Jr., of Winter Garden, Fla., and Jason Crews of Jesup; his mother, Winnie Crews of Jesup; one brother, Ron Crews of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Austin Cole Crews of Jesup, Kaeli Bryan and Jacob Layton Crews of Winter Garden, Fla.

    Funeral services were held Sept. 1 from Jesup First Baptist Church with Dr. Felix Haynes officiating.

    Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

    Active pallbearers were Thomas Jason Crews, Roger Layton Crews Jr., Austin Crews, Thomas Randall Mankin, Wade Odum, Gene Lyons, Ralph Clark, Jeff Griffith, John Swingle, Bob Fox and Grant Lewis.

    Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
