    Rev'd Canon Larry G. Wilkes
    (September 11, 1950 - May 28, 2012)

    The Rev'd Canon Larry G. Wilkes passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at his home in Arnaudville at the age of 61. Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, three adult children, numerous grandchildren, and mother and father.

    Larry was a true man of the Lord. His connection with God could be felt by all who crossed his path. He could make anyone smile with his great sense of humor and his personable stories. Family and friends will greatly miss his selfless ability to listen to any problem, large or small, and offer flawless advice. He is remembered for living a life filled with faith, patience, and acceptance.

    Larry was born in Dublin, GA, and reared in Augusta, GA. Pursuing a love of medicine, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman for twenty-one years. After his retirement from the Navy in 1989, he answered God's calling and entered into Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1992. He worked at three parishes in southern Virginia for four years. In February 1996, he again answered the call to the sea through a commission to the US Navy as a chaplain. After again retiring from the Navy in 2001, he became associate rector at San Jose Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, FL. In 2003, he and his wife relocated to Arnaudville and he served as rector of the Church of the Ascension for four years, leaving the parish to work as the Canon to the Ordinary. In 2009, he started working as the priest for the Church of the Epiphany in New Iberia, LA.

    A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, located at 303 West Main St., New Iberia, LA. Officiating for the service will be the Rt. Rev'd D. Bruce MacPherson, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Western Louisiana. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.

    In lieu of flowers, his family is requesting donations be made in the name of Larry G. Young and husband Joe of Evans; two sons: David Baum Wilkes, III and wife Jean of Augusta and the late Rev. Canon Larry Glynn Wilkes, Sr. and wife Debbie; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Wilkes Luty, Laura Wilkes Smiley, Angela Kay Scarborough, Larry Glynn Wilkes, Jr., Jeremy Adam Mendenhall, Stewart Allan Mendenhall, Kerryl Spivey, and several great and great-great grandchildren.

    A funeral service will be Monday, April 25, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at Woodlawn United Methodist Church with Masonic Service with Rev. Jim McCollough officiating. Burial will be at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, GA., Monday, at 2:00 P.M.

    Mrs. Adel Thomas Wilkes, loving wife of the late David B. Wilkes, Jr. passed away on Wednesday morning, January 30, 2019 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

    Mrs. Wilkes was a longtime resident of Augusta. She retired as a bookkeeper at the Medical College of Georgia. She was a devoted member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church since 1951. Mrs. Wilkes was an avid supporter of the Augusta Green Jackets baseball team. She enjoyed attending games and was a longtime Green Jackets Club member. Mrs. Wilkes loved cooking for family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

    Family members include two daughters: Kay W. Simon and husband Joey of Grovetown and Mary W. Young and husband Joe of Evans; two sons: David Baum Wilkes, III and wife Jean of Augusta and the late Rev. Canon Larry Glynn Wilkes, Sr. and wife Debbie; sisters: Kadel Williams; the late Ora Beacham brother: Elder Paul Thomas; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Wilkes Luty (Mark), Laura Wilkes Smiley (Duncan), Angela Kay Scarborough, Larry Glynn Wilkes, Jr., Jeremy Adam Mendenhall, Stewart Allan Mendenhall (Karen), Kerryl Spivey (Joey), and several great and great-great grandchildren.

    In addition to her husband and son, Mrs. Wilkes was preceded in death by 6 other sisters and 5 brothers; a grandson: Hunter Lee Scarborough and a great granddaughter: Kori Jean Matthai.

    A funeral service will be Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Chaplain Wade Sosebee officiating. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, GA. at 3:00 P.M.
