    Katie was a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia at the time of her passing.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Richard.

    The family will receive friends Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm at Bucktrout Funeral Home, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

    Katie (Kitty) Lee Nettles Biggs, born May 2, 1924, in Florida passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014.

    Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Kitty fulfilled her wishes to see the world. She was known for elegant and gourmet cooking, and master bridge playing. She never forgot where she grew up and loved her family in Florida and always gave much love and support to her children. Kitty spent her last years among wonderful friends.

    Preceding her in death was her husband of 49 years Richard Chester Biggs, a son, Timothy C. Biggs, brothers; Seth Nettles, William Nettles, and James Nettles, sisters; Edna Hall, Ruth Moody, and Janey Nettles..

    Survivors include her son Richard Kirby Biggs and daughter Deborah Biggs Grandchildren; Jeffrey (Valerie) Dockman, Micheal (Amy) Dockman, Richard Valentine Biggs, Morgan Biggs and brothers and sisters, Rodney Nettles (Maryann), Henrietta Kirkland (Joe), Libby Green, May Edwards (Jim), and John J.     Mrs. Mary Frances Amerson, age 81, of Lake City, Fla. died Friday, Dec. 21, in the Baya Point Nursing and Rehab, Lake City, Fla. following a long illness.

    She was born in Oka Humpka, Fla. and resided in Lake City from 1935 to 1950 and then until 1990 she followed her husbands military career. She returned to Lake City in 1990 to enjoy her retirement. She spent many years traveling, was in Germany for six years, working at J.C. Pennys in Altanta, Ga. for ten years, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Advent Christian Church of Lake City. She was the daughter of the late Seth Samuel Nettles, the original founder of Nettles Sausage Company, and the late Mabel Beartrice Shaw Nettles.

    She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Amerson of Lake City, Fla.: Two daughters, Janet K. Burdette of Jacksonville, Fla. and Melissa D. (Michael Pintar) Amerson of Tucson, Az.: One son, Samuel T. (Barbara) Amerson of Stuart, Fla.: Three brothers, Joe Nettles, Earl Nettles, and Sammy Nettles all of Lake City, Fla.: Three grandchildren, Paul Amerson, David Amerson, and Sierra Amerson: One step grandchild, Tyler Staggs.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, Dec. 26, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Gaylord, Pastor of the First Advent Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Fla.

    Visitation will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Wednesday (One hour before services) at Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Fla.

    Mr. Joseph L. “Joe” Nettles, age 84, of Lake City, Florida died Friday, Dec. 20, at his home following a long illness.

    Mr. Nettles was born in Union County, Florida and resided in Lake City, Florida all of his life. He was the owner and worked with Nettles Sausage Company, Lake City, Florida for over 70 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ-Latter Day Saints-Lake City Ward and a graduate of Mason City High School Class of 1954. He loved going to the Smokey Mountains, flea markets, raising cattle and his loving family.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth Samuel and Mable Shaw Nettles and four siblings, Charles E. Nettles, Mary F. Amerson, Carolyn Pearce and Sarah Kate Hygema.

    He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Nettles: his daughter, Gail (John) Osburn: Three sons, Billy (Pennie) Nettles, Bruce Nettles and Jerry (Paula) Nettles all of Lake City, Florida: Two brothers, Earl (Angela) Nettles and Sammy (Gail) Nettles both of Lake City, Florida: Six grandchildren, Derrick Hall, Garett Osburn, Kye Osburn, Megan Osburn, Madeline Mabile (Hunter) and Chelsea Jo Nettles: One great-grandchild, Kairi Gregory, also survives.

    A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Nettles will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, Dec. 23, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Bishop Regal Dicks and Bishop John J. Nettles officiating.

    Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida.

    Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday, Dec. 22, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida.

    Mrs. Sarah "Kate" Nettles Hygema, age 66, of Bryceville, Fla. died Monday, August 3, in the Florida Hospital Hospice Care Oceanside, Ormond Beach, Fla. following a long illness. She was a native of Lake City and had resided in Jacksonville, Fla for 46 years before moving to Bryceville, Fla. four years ago. She had worked as an executive secretary with Barnett Banks, Jacksonville, Fla for over 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Kings Road Baptist Church, Dinsmore, Fla. and was preceded in death by her parents, Seth Nettles and Mabel Shaw Nettles.

    She is survived by two daughters, Lori (Buck) Holabird of Bryceville, Fla and Melinda (Tom) Knott of Ormond Beach, Fla.: two sons, David P. (Sharon) Hygema of Bryceville, Fla. and Stephen R. (Elizabeth) Hygema of Mexico: one sister, Mary F. Anderson of Lake City, Fla.: Three brothers, Joe Nettles, Earl Nettles and Sammy Nettles all of Lake City, Fla.: Eleven grandchildren also survive.

    Albert Earl Nettles, 77 of Lake City, passed from this life on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his home. He was born in Union County to the late Seth and Mabel Shaw Nettles. Mr. Nettles was raised in Lake City and was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1964. He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation and retired with 39 years of employment. Mr. Nettles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the Price Creek Ward in Lake City. He loved to serve in his church and attending the temple.

    Mr. Nettles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 years, Kristine Box Stiles; wife Glenda Bryant; his brothers, Charles Nettles and Joe Nettles; his sisters, Mary Frances Amerson, Sara Kate Hygema and Caroline Pierce.

    Survivors include his wife, Angela Nettles, Lake City; his children, Dorinda Feasel (Rob), Earlene Nettles (Daniel Lee), Mickel Stiles (Janet) and Ricky Stiles all of Lake City; his brother, Sammy Nettles (Gail), Lake City; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    A memorial service for Mr. Nettles will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Price Creek Ward at 909 SE Country Club Road, Lake City, FL 32025.

    Cremation arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, FL 32025.

    Marilyn Nettles Little
    (November 15, 1933 - May 26, 2011)

    Mrs. Marilyn Nettles Little, age 77, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family who had lovingly cared for her during her illness of the past several months. She was born in Okahumpka, Florida on November 15, 1933 to the late Rosa Lee Shaw Nettles and William Jackson Nettles and moved to Columbia County with her parents at an early age. She was a retired educator with the Columbia County School System having received a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Valdosta State University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Florida in five areas of certification, elementary education, reading, curriculum development, guidance and administration/supervision. She taught first grade and reading at Five Points School and served as a Guidance Counselor at Five Points, the Kindergarten Center and Fort White School until retiring in 1994. During her more than thirty years as an educator, she touched the lives of thousands of young people in Columbia County. She was an avid reader and loved to travel having traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Costa Rica, but her favorite destination was “The Little Place”, the family’s summer home in Franklin, North Carolina, especially when her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were visiting. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holding several leadership positions including Primary teacher, visiting teacher and Relief Society President.

    Mrs. Little is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Ralph Little; a son, Roger Little of Lake City; a daughter, Terri Metrick (Ray) of Fort White; five grandchildren, Roger Little, Jr., Laurie Little, Ronnie Robinson, Kelly Robinson, and Will Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Daisy, Carly and Jackson Robinson; a sister, Frances Wilson (Carl) of Fort White and a brother, Howell Nettles (Shirley) of Glen St. Mary.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Little will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 30, 2011 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located on Old Country Club Road with Bishop Jeffro Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of the funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 on Sunday afternoon.

    Timothy C. Biggs, 44, of Glen Rock died yesterday in Valley Hospital, Ridgewood.

    A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Catharine Church, Glen Rock. Arrangements are by the Vander Plaat Colonial Home Inc., Fair Lawn.

    Mr. Biggs was a public relations director with the Prudential Insurance Co. corporate headquarters in Newark, where he worked for 18 years.

    He earned a bachelor's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University in 1978 and a master's degree in future studies from the University of Houston at Clearlake in 1979.

    Mr. Biggs volunteered for many sporting programs in Glen Rock.

    Born in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., he had lived in Glen Rock for 17 years.

    Surviving are his wife, Pamela; a daughter, Ashley; a son, Brett; his mother, Mrs. Katie Biggs; a sister, Deborah, and a brother, Kirby.

    Teresa “LaVoye” Nettles (Huff), Age 46, passed away Sunday, March 22, in St. George, Utah due to a car accident.

    LaVoye was born September 29, 1968 in Gainesville, FL to Rodney and Mary Ann (Carpenter) Nettles. She was raised in Lake City, Florida and graduated from Columbia High School, class of 1986. She continued her education as she worked and raised her three wonderful children, Chelsey, Cierra, and Logan. LaVoye received an R.N. degree from Suomi College in Houghton, Michigan and a Bachelor of Nursing from Dixie State University in Utah.

    Her son Logan once wrote when he was 8 years old, “LaVoye loves her children and plays with them. She is very good at riding bikes outdoors with me. Yes, she is good at cooking. EVERY night she works!!” The children always came first in her life and she was a good mother!

    LaVoye enjoyed the outdoors, loved traveling, and lived in various states, eventually settling in St. George, UT. She was always doing things for other people, and was friend to many. She was a dedicated employee wherever she worked, and was respected by all. She loved to laugh and sing, and could make any situation seem bright.

    She is survived by her parents and devoted children, Chelsey LaVoye Baker, Provo, UT; Cierra Monet Baker (Cord) and Logan Scott Baker (Shaylee), St. George, UT; brother John William Nettles (Julie); Lake City, FL and many loving and caring family and friends.

    A visitation with the family was held in St. George, UT on Wednesday, March 25 from 6-8pm at Spilsbury Mortuary on Bluff Street.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Old Country Club Road in Lake City.

    Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Union County.

    Visitation with the family will be from 9:30-11:00 am, prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
