    LAKE CITY - Park Trammell Dicks of Lake City died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He was 83.

    Mr. Dicks was a retired school teacher in Chiefland and former was elected president of the Levy County Classroom Teachers Association. He also served as secretary to the State Agricultural Teachers Organization.

    He was born in Columbia County, received his bachelor's and masters degrees from the University of Florida, and moved from Chiefland back to Columbia County 34 years ago.

    Mr. Dicks was a member of the Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Farm Bureau, the Cattlemen's Association and the Hopeful Baptist Church.

    Survivors include his wife, Annie T. Dicks of Lake City; a son, Wayne Dicks of Lake City; two daughters, Dorothy Jean Feaglecq and Laveeniacq Smith, both of Lake City; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Markham had resided in Lake City and Columbia County most of her life and was the daughter of the late Rev. John and Pearl Tyre Dicks, and widow of the late C. Eric Markham. She owned Markham Nursery and also owned and operated with her late husband the People's Hardware Company in Lake City, Fla. for many years. Mrs. Markham was a me mber of the Hopeful Baptist Church of Lake City, Fla., was Past Matron of Minnie Lee Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Past Matron and Patron Club.

    Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dan Booz of Lake City, Fla.; two sisters, Emerald Stewart and Fay Gay Meek both of Lake City, Fla.; three brothers, Trible J. Dicks of Deland, Fla., Lenvil H. Dicks and Rodney S.     DELAND Tribble John Dicks, 86, of West Euclid Avenue, a retired Navy commander, died Thursday at Alliance Nursing Center.

    Mr. Dicks, a veteran of World War II where he served in the South Pacific and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor, was born in Columbia County and came here in 1958 from Macon, Ga. He also retired as a biology teacher from DeLand High School. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in science from Stetson University. Mr. Dicks was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, the Retired Officers Association Group, and the Retired Educators Association of West Volusia County. He was a master gardener with the Volusia County Agricultural Extension Center.

    Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Vera; a daughter, Sherry Jones, Orlando; two brothers, Lenvil and Rodney, both of Lake City; two sisters, Emerald Stewart, St. Petersburg, and Fay Meek, Lake City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Fay Dicks Gay Meek, 89, Lake City, Florida passed away 26 Dec. 2011, at her residence.

    She was a life long resident of Columbia County and was educated in the Columbia County School System. She attended elementary school at Mason City and graduated from Columbia High School in 1939. She retired from the Florida Highway Patrol in 1979, where she was secretary to Troop B Commanders for 28 years.

    She was the daughter of the late Rev. John Dicks and Pearl Tyre Dicks. She was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church and was preceded in death by two husbands, Austin Gay and Robert Brice Meek, Sr., one brother Tribble Dicks, three sisters Golde Markham, Emerald Stewart, and Opal Rogers, and one granddaughter Lorie Anne Gay.

    Survivors include two sons Dewy Gay (Ann) and Tevis Gay (Melissa) and one daughter Teresa Register (Randy), two brothers Lenvil Dicks and Rodney Dicks (Norma) all of Lake City, Florida. She is also survived by one step-son Robert Meek, Jr. (Debbie) of Clover, S.C. and one step-daughter Sarah Kalinosky (George) of Calif. In addition she is survived by six grandchildren, Tracy Watson of Monticello, Fl., Pamela Hill (Steve) of Lake City, Fl., Patti Little (Jeremy) of Jacksonville, Fl., Karen Felton (Alex) of Lake City, Fl., Chesley Gay (Amanda) of Lake City, Fl., and Chelsey Gay of Lake City, Fl., and two step-grandchildren Robbie Meek (Kristen) and Jackie Krashner (Albert) of S.C. Nine great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Gay will be conducted Wed., 28 Dec. at 11 A.M., in Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Baker Pastor officiating and assisted by Rev. Lowell O, steen.

    Mr. Lenvil Herbert Dicks, age 91 of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at The Rehabilitation Center of Lake City.

    Lenvil was born and raised in Columbia County, Florida and was the seventh of eight children to the late Rev. John Dicks and Pearl Tyre Dicks.

    He was born just before the great depression and grew up poor. The only thing they had of value was family. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1946, where he played trumpet in the Columbia High School band under Band Directors Carl Roberts and Barney Black.

    He earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Stetson University in 1951, attending college under the G.I. Bill benefits from his service in the United States Army, where he played First Trumpet in the Fifth Army Division Band. He later earned a Master of Music Degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from Baylor he went to playing First Trumpet in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He later showed his love for Stetson by establishing a scholarship for music majors.

    Lenvil returned to Florida and accepted the Directorship of the Union County High School Band in Lake Butler, and moved to a position as Band Director of Columbia High School where he served as Band Director from August 1956 until June 1966. During this period, he wrote the Columbia High Tiger fight song “Onward Victorious” which is still played to this day. The school board reluctantly accepted his resignation allowing him to open his real estate business, Dicks Realty. Dicks Realty is the oldest Real Estate firm in Lake City and is still operating today under the leadership of his son Brad. He was well known by the title of "The Land Man", during his real estate career, as he developed and sold thousands of parcels of land in the North Central Florida area.

    Lenvil was loving, compassionate, humorous and, dedicated to his community. He never met a stranger and was quick with a joke or a simple hello. Being in business for over 50 years, it became common to see him at the post office or a local bank. Lake City changed a lot more than Lenvil did over that half century. He made it through life without ever needing an email or logging onto the internet. He was a simple man with few personal possessions but was generous, donating for community events such as fireworks , investing in our youth by buying animals the Columbia County Fair and stepping up when the CHS Band needed uniforms and instruments. He was also a strong supporter of local churches and charities throughout the years.

    As a teacher, he taught excellence and discipline. After school, he was a mentor to those same students who cropped tobacco and planted pine trees at the end of the school day. Later in life he became a source for owner financing with low money down, allowing thousands of families the ability to own their own property. Lenvil has sold one acre lots for as little as $100.00. Through the years he maintained a reputation of being fair and a man of his word. A handshake was worth more than a contract. He has been a source of wisdom for many businessmen that have become successful members of our community.

    He was preceded in death by an infant child, Robin Dicks; and seven siblings, Golde Dicks Markham, Clarence Dicks, Tribble Dicks, Emerald Dicks Stewart, Opal Dicks Rogers, Fay Dicks Gay and Rodney Dicks.

    Survivors include his children, Suzanne Davis (Jay), Bradley N. Dicks (Susanna) and Andrew J. Dicks all of Lake City; eight grandchildren, Brandon Mason, Brent Mason, Ashley Adams, David Adams, Shanna Adams, Sarah Dicks, John Dicks and Aaron Dicks; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Adams, Brynlee Winn and William Wood, Jr.; his former spouse and committed companion, Beadie Dicks, Lake City; the mother of his children, Julia Dicks, Lake City; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

    From the children of Lenvil, a special thanks goes out to all of the nurses and staff of The Rehabilitation Center of Lake City for the outstanding care and compassion given to our Daddy during the last months of his life.

    Funeral services for Mr. Dicks will be conducted on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

    Mr. Rodney Seth Dicks, 84, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully in Lake City Medical Center on Monday, February 19, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.

    Mr. Dicks was born July 18, 1933 and is the son of the late Rev. John Dicks and Pearl Tyre Dicks. He graduated from Columbia High School, Class of 1951. After graduation he served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Norma Robinson, on July 5, 1953 and they were sealed on August 15, 1972 in the Salt Lake Temple for Time and All Eternity with their children Regal, Delvey, Kevin and Jilene. He owned / operated a family farm and DLC Cattle Company. He served as Columbia County Commissioner during 1974-1978. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, currently of the Price Creek Ward and served faithfully as the Bishop of the Lake City Second Ward from February 12, 1984 until September 20, 1987.

    Survivors included his wife of 64 years, Norma Robinson Dicks; sons, Regal (Shirlene) Dicks, Delvey (Cindy) Dicks, Kevin (Loretta) Dicks, and daughter Jilene Dicks; eight grandchildren, Maranda (Chris) Lowery, Trista (Matthew) Dykes, Kiley (Jordan) Wade, Matthew (Abigail) Dicks, Brady (Casey) Dicks, Haley (Randall) Boyette, Brandy and Heather Little; twelve great-grandchildren, Logan, Ashlyn, Maggie and Lily Lowery, Molly Sadie and Kimball Wade, Carolina and Sarah Ann Dicks, Amos and Owen Dicks, and Alexis Griffis; is also survived by one living sibling, Lenvil Dicks, and numerous beloved nephews and nieces.     Ora Lee Dicks Milton of Orlando died Thursday after an extended illness. She was 84.

    Mrs. Milton was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and lived most of her life in Lake City.

    She worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. for 28 years as a credit manager. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held leadership positions in her ward, later serving as a temple worker in the Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Orlando temples.

    She was an avid gardener and genealogist.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie F. Milton Sr., and a grandson, Flint Carlton Dickman.

    Survivors include daughters LaTreva Dickman of Orlando and Joanne Wilkes of Chapin, S.C.; a son, J. Frederick Milton Jr. of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother, Ivol Dicks of Lake Butler; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

    James Earl Dicks Sr.

    Mr. James Earl Dicks Sr., 75, of Lake City, died early Sunday morning at his residence following an extended illness.

    Born November 20, 1922, in Columbia County, he ws the second child born to the late Ollie and Lizzie Williams Dicks. Mr. Dicks was a lifelong Columbia County resident and was best known for the vegetables that his work as a farmer produced. Mr. Dicks' farms were famous for his tobacco, acre peas and all the different types of greens that he grew. Mr. Dicks' health had only recently forced him out of the fields that are still full of the greens that he was most noted for. Mr. Dicks attended Hopeful Baptist Church.

    Mr. Dicks is survived by his wife, Idalee Dicks, two sons, Edward Dicks, Lake City, and James Earl Dicks, Jr., Milton, Florida; two step-sons, Robert Terrell, Lake City, and Raymond Terrell, Lake City; a step-daughter, Robbie Carter, Deer Park, Texas; a brother, Ivol Dicks, Lake Butler, Florida; and a sister, Ora Lee Milton of Lake City. Three grandchildren and a great-grandson also survive.

    Funeral services for Mr. Dicks will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 1998, in Hopeful Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick McCall officiating. Interment will follow in Hopeful Baptist Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8:30 Monday evening at the funeral home.     Ivol Henry Dicks, 84, of Lake Butler passed away peacefully on January 23, 2011, at the Avalon Care Center in Lake City after a brief illness. He was born in Columbia County, living most of his life in Union County. He was a farmer, but retired from U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was the son of the late Ollie Dicks and Lizzie Williams Dicks. he was preceded in death by his loving wife Letha Brown Dicks and two brothers: Harvey and Earl Dicks and a sister, Ora Lee Milton (Johnnie) Milton. He was a Mormon.

    He is survived by his daughter: Marilyn Williams (Denny) of Lake City, son: Dale Dicks (Sheila) of Lake Butler and two grandchildren: Scott Dicks and Jennifer Dicks.

    Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery, with Elder Wendell Nettles conducting the services. Burial will follow under the care of ARCHER FUNERAL HOME of Lake Butler. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening.

    IVIE Sibyl Lillian Toney Ivie, age 84, of Florahome, died Thursday October 21, 2010 at Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

    She was a native of Lake City and had lived in Florahome since 1976, coming from Jacksonville where she lived for many years.

    She was a member of the Florahome Church of God and retired after 32 years as a plant results clerk with Southern Bell Telephone Company in Jacksonville. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

    She is survived by 2 nephews, Roland Smith and wife, Bobbie and Stanley Youngblood and wife, Alice; 5 nieces, Sandra Chancellor and husband, Robert, Caroline Cheshire, Mary Alice Raulerson, Beverly Barfield and husband, Jerry, and Susan McIntosh and husband, Tim.

    Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 28th at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, 307 S. Palm Avenue, Palatka, Florida, 32177 with Rev. Robert Davis officiating.

    Burial will follow in Paran Cemetery in Grandin.

    He was the son of the late Mary Jane Croft Dicks and William Henry Dicks Sr.

    He was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Otto Dicks, Emory Lee Dicks, his sister Francis Eugene Dicks and son Joseph W. Dicks.

    He served in the U.S army in 1955 with the 101st and 82nd airborne. He was a farmer and a trucker for most of his life. He loved his family and friends and never met a stranger.

    Survived by his woman of 28 years Florence M. Hewett and children Dennis W. Dicks (Latoshia); Tracy L. Harper (Kathryn); Gary D. Dicks; Kimberly Michelle Dicks; Thomas B. Dicks; Josh A. Stokes; Gregory D. (Leanne) Stokes; Sheila M. Robertson (Kris); Paul O. Raymont (Melissa); 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was loved by so many and will be truly missed.

    A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Dicks will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, May 11th, in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mrs. Shirley Dicks Markham, 92 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. Mrs. Markham was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and daughter to the late R.P. Dicks, Sr. and Ruth Jones Dicks. She was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church and a graduate of the 1939 class at Columbia High School. Mrs. Markham was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Hubert Leighton Markham in 1995 and one brother, R.P. “Bob” Dicks, Jr.

    Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Jim) Duncan of Otto, NC and Jan (Patrick) Womble of Lake City; two sisters, Bertie Mae Pursley and Alice Mangle both of Lake City; one sister-in-law, Frances Dicks, Lake City; three grandchildren, Scott (Andrea) Duncan of Pensacola, FL, Kelly Ann (Justin) Kite of Starke and Brad (Brandy) Womble of Lake City; eight great grandchildren, Troy Leighton Kite, Cole Kite, Gavin Kite, Rachel Duncan, Timothy Duncan, Lilly Swan, Ellie Womble and Avery Womble; and her special care giver, Angie Douglas of Lake City also survives.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Rodriguez and Rev. Hugh Dampier officiating. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home.     Bertie Dicks Pursley, age 96 of Lake City, Florida died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family and with the assistance of Haven Hospice.

    She was born February 16, 1924 to the late Ruth and Robert Preston Dicks, Sr. She graduated from Columbia County Schools in 1941, the year WWII was declared. She began her career with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration and County Extension Office in Lake City. She moved to Washington, D.C. in 1943 to work in the Identification Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A highlight of her time was meeting J. Edgar Hoover during his tenure as the Director. While in Washington, D.C., she met (on a blind date) and married the love of her life, Roger Curtis Pursley, within 6 weeks. They were married for 64 ½ years, until his passing in 2009, a testament to the commitment of their vows and devotion to each other. After returning to Lake City in 1946, they welcomed the arrival of their son, Roger Preston, and she began to work for the Department of Public Welfare and the Department of Public Health. She retired in 1979 from the County Extension Office after serving 27 years.

    She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. She was the oldest continuous member of Hopeful Baptist Church of which she was a devoted life-long member. She believed in serving others in her church and did so as a Sunday School and Training Union teacher for years. Her favorite times were sitting on the back row greeting those that came in and attending her Dorcas Sunday School Class; where she made her sense of humor known.

    She loved riding her tri-bike all over the community collecting aluminum cans while meeting many strangers who became her friends. She began her “canning” much to the chagrin of her granddaughters who referred to her as the “bag lady.” She often reminded her family those cans helped pay for the cruise she took with her graduating class. She continued this ministry well into her 80s.

    She loved being outdoors and working in her yard. On her 90th birthday, she received a new weed-eater. Finally, at the age of 95 and after wearing out many more weed-eaters, she allowed for others to maintain her yard.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Robert Preston Dicks, Sr., her husband, Roger Curtis Pursley, her brother and sister in law, Robert Preston Dicks, Jr. (Frances), her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Dicks Markham (Hubert), her sister, Alice Dicks Mangle, and special nieces Freda Mangle Crawford and Glenda Dicks Cutford.

    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger Preston Pursley (Janice) of Tallahassee, her granddaughters, Vanessa Pursley Keen (Jason) of Vero Beach, and Allison Pursley Carter (Todd) of Tallahassee, and four great grandchildren, Preston, Peyton and Paige Keen, and Lauren Carter. Special nieces and nephews: Sandra Markham Duncan (Jim), Ronnie Mangle (Phyliss), Kay Dicks, Randy Dicks, and Jan Markham Womble (Patrick). Also, a host of great nieces, nephews and friends.

    The visitation for Mrs. Pursley will be conducted on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 2:00 PM with the funeral service following at 3:00 PM at Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Stanland and Dr. Gary Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Cemetery.     Ms. Alice Dicks Mangle, 91, of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 13, 2018 at the Shands University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville, after a sudden illness. She was born in Lake City on December 5, 1926 to the late R.P. and Ruth Jones Dicks. She was a member of the Columbia High School graduating class of 1945, attended the Jones Business College in Jacksonville; earned her AA degree from Lake City Community College with Honors, briefly attended the University of Florida and was a Licensed Real Estate Agent. She worked in Jacksonville and Miami prior to working for the State of Florida, where she worked for 20 years with the Department of Public Welfare, a session with the Florida Legislature, and retired as the District Right of Way Acquisition Supervisor with the Department of Transportation after twenty years. She was a Bible studies teacher for over 60 years, and served in numerous other positions. Served several years each on the Board for Manna House Ministries (a precursor to Christian Service Center), with the Columbia County Literacy Program, and the Board of Pregnancy Crisis Center.

    In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to nearly every state in our country including Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, England, the Holy Land, The Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Central and South America. Many of the travels were for missions for the Lord, meeting and loving people from all walks of life. Her main focus in life was her Lord, but she also loved her children dearly, her church family, grandchildren, all her extended family, friends home and work. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Freda Crawford; sister, Shirley Markham and brother, Bob Dicks.

    She is survived by her son, Ronald “Ron” Mangle (Phyllis) of Lake City; son-in-law, Dr. Gary Crawford (Ingrid) of Gainesville; sister, Bertie Pursley of Lake City; sister-in-law, Frances Dicks of Lake City; two grandchildren, Christa Crawford Latham (Bill) and John G. Crawford (Tina), seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

    Funeral services for Ms. Mangle will be conducted on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Crawford and Rev. Zeb Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. (one hour prior to the services) at the church.     Ms. Alice Louise Crews, 93, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, February 6, 2017, at the Suwannee Valley Haven Hospice Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness.

    She was born in Lake City, Florida on December 18, 1923 to the late Drew and Mary Jones Dicks. She started out working for the State Exchange Bank in Lake City and retired from Bank of America in the late 1980's, she was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and was one of the founding members of the Columbia County Riding Club. In her spare time she loved to garden and ride horses; she was a member of Altrusa and a past member of the Eastern Star.

    She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 plus years: William L. "Cotton" Crews; great-grandson: Gabriel Cepeda; brother: Ned Dicks and sisters: Elsie Mae Dicks, Tercie Witt, Lola Mae Coleman and son-in-law: Don McDavid, Sr.

    She is survived by her loving children: Sherry McDavid of Brooker, Jackie (Aline) Crews of Lake City, Louise (Rev. Ivan) Clements of Lake City, Barbara Crews O'steen (Doc Bloodworth) of Lake City and Vernon Crews of Lake City; brothers: Roosevelt (JoAnn) Dicks of Lake City, Archie (Valerie) of England and Wayne Dicks of Lake City; sisters: Gay Roberts of Lake City and Quinn Boone of Lake City. Grandchildren: Denise (Robin) Pearce, Donna (Ray) McDavid and Don (Jodi Salerno) McDavid, Jr; and great-grandchildren: Dwayne Pearce, Austin Pearce, Ashley Pearce, Tyler McDavid, Lauren Jones, Jalyssa Cepeda and Isaiah Cepeda along with special friend: P.D. Cason also survive.

    Funeral Services for Ms. Crews will be conducted on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10 A.M. in the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Brown and Rev. Ivan Clements officiating.

    Ned Fuller Dicks, 84, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Lake City Medical Center. He was born here in Columbia County to the late Drew and Mary Jane (Jones) Dicks and has stayed here all his life. He retired from the Department of Transportation in 1990 after 35 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed doing small engine repair, and was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and his wife of 50 years, Lois Dicks.

    Survivors include his children, Betty, Bobby (Kathy), Peggy (Porky) and Johnny; brothers, Roosevelt and Wayne Dicks of Lake City, FL & Archie of England; sisters, Louise Crews, Gay Roberts, & Quinn Boone all of Lake City, FL; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Baker officiating.     Galena "Gay" Belle Dicks Roberts, 90, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 after a brief illness.

    She was born in Lake City on June 24, 1933 to the late Drew Dicks and Elsie Williams Dicks. She accepted the Lord as her savior at the age of 10 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church here in Lake City and was baptized in the creek near the church. She was a 1951 graduate of Columbia High School with honors and also earned her business degree from college in Jacksonville in 15 moths time following. In 1964, she went to work for the Federal Government in Lake City with the Department of Agriculture, in the ASCS office, where she retired from after 31 years of service. She was a praying woman, who enjoyed being at her church, the Lake City Church of God, and serving with their food ministry. She loved her family dearly as well as studying her bible, working in the garden and bible word search puzzles.

    She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Elton W. "Bob" Roberts; brother, Ned Dicks; infant sister, Elsie Dicks; and her sisters, Louise Crews, Lola Mae Coleman, Tercie Witt and Quinn Boone.

    She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimi D. Roberts of Lake City; grandchildren, Tammy Danielle Roberts of Lake City, Jarrad Christian Roberts of Gainesville, Hannah Christine Zimmermann of Jacksonville and Iris Elaine Roberts of Lake City; great-grandchildren, Abbiegail Danielle Drawdy of Lake City, Maxwell Tyler Zimmermann and Charlotte Louise Zimmermann both of Jacksonville. Brothers, Wayne Dicks of Lake City, Roosevelt Dicks of Lake City and Archie Dicks (Valeria); along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

    A funeral service for Mrs. Roberts will be conducted on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. in the Lake City Church of God with Pastor Carl Thomas officiating; assisted by Pastor Dale Dansby and Pastor Carroll Lee.

    Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Marceline "Marci" Haver (née Dicks), 91, died peacefully on February 9, 2020 after suffering several years with advanced Alzheimer's disease. Her memorial, scheduled for April, 2020, was cancelled due to Covid-19 and serious illness with one of her children. We have yet to reschedule the service, but we remember and miss her every day, especially on the anniversary of her death.

    She was born on Armistice Day, November 11, 1928, to Roy Dicks and Mabel Dicks (née Roberts) and was given the name Marceline Clodia Dicks. She grew up in Lake City, Florida. She had one younger brother, the late Roy Dicks Jr., and a younger sister, Patricia Dicks (Lester), who resides in Valdosta.

    She is survived by her children, Lowell Eugene Haver of Scottdale, Sandra Marie Haver Ayenew (Asefa Ayenew) of Stone Mountain, Dr. Paul David Haver (Sharon Wong) of Athens, and Charles Roy Haver of Atlanta. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Donald Lynn Haver (1988). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Matthew Haver, Daniel Eugene Haver, Kasaye Asefa Ayenew, Michael Alexander Haver and William Harrison Haver. Her grandson, Stephen Arlo Haver, subsequently passed away in February, 2021.

    She attended Florida Christian College, and graduated from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, where she also met her beloved, Robert "Bob" Wayne Haver of Newcomerstown, OH. They were wed on June 8, 1950 shortly after graduating. They were happily married for 58 years until his death in December, 2008.

    She and her husband both grew up in Church of Christ families, but together they decided to leave the denomination in the 1960s, eventually finding their way to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta where they enjoyed singing in the choir.

    She was a loving mother and housewife for many years, and taught piano lessons out of the family's home. She later attended Georgia State University, graduating in 1977 with a degree in education. She became a music teacher for the Atlanta Public Schools, teaching at Whitefoord, Beecher Hills and Toomer Elementary Schools.

    In the 1960s, she and her husband became active in local politics, joining Southwest Atlanta for Progress (SWAP) as white flight was beginning to occur in their neighborhood. They resided in Southwest Atlanta for more than 40 years before later moving to Decatur. They were also active in Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), as well as Advocates for Special Citizens (ASC) and Residential Resource Alternatives (RRA), helping to establish and run group homes for the mentally disabled in South Fulton County.

    She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, and is sorely missed.

    Mr. Roy Dicks, Jr., age 88, of Lake City, Florida died peacefully at his residence on Friday, June 1, with his family at his bedside.

    He was a fourth generation pioneer Columbia county family, having resided in Lake City all of his life. He was an educator in the local school system for 37 years, having taught 7th grade math for 11 years and was principal of Melrose Elementary School for 26 years. He also was a part time minister of The Church of Christ and worked with congregations in Macclenny, Lake Butler, High Springs, Live Oak, Mayo, Perry, Burlington/Sante Fe, Lake City and Bell, Florida, and held his membership at the Lake City Church of Christ.

    He was a graduate of Mason City High School, a graduate of Florida College, Tampa, Florida and obtained his Master’s Degree from Florida State University in 1958.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Cochran Dicks and his parents, Roy and Mable Roberts Dicks, Sr.

    He is survived by his daughter, Cherie (Ray) Hill and his son, Steven Dicks both of Lake City, Florida: Two sisters, Marcelean Haver of Atlanta, Georgia and Pat Lester of Valdosta, Georgia: Grandchildren , Blake Dicks of Lake Butler, Fla., Jodi England of Anaheim, Ca., Brad Dicks of Lake Butler, Fla., Sarah Jordan of Brentwood, TN., Garrett Hill of Jacksonville, Fla. and Caleb Hill of Lake City, Fla.: Eight great-grandchildren also survive.

    A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Dicks will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 5, in the Lake City Church of Christ with Minister Brandon Britton officiating.

    Interment will be in Hopeful Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida.

    Laveenia Dicks Elder of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully from a sudden illness on January 9, 2024 at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. She was surrounded by family. Laveenia was devoted to her family and encouraged and prayed over them all. She will be remembered for her sweet, caring personality, her strong Christian faith, her love of her family. She had a wonderful laugh and found humor in almost everything. Laveenia loved Christmas and passed on this love to her children and grandchildren. She was always ready to listen and brought wisdom to every situation. It was an absolute joy for her to visit her pine tree farm, which was beautifully tended to by her loving husband, Kent. She often said the farm was "the most beautiful place on God's earth". Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her family and loved ones.

    Laveenia was born in Lake City, Florida, but grew up in Chiefland, Florida where her father was the FFA teacher and advisor for 20 years. Upon graduation from Chiefland High School, she attended Florida State University and graduated with a BS Degree in Elementary Education. The last 19 years of her 30 years of teaching, were spent at Melrose Park Elementary in Lake City. She was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church.

    Laveenia is predeceased by her parents P.T. Dicks and Evelyn Moore Dicks, her first husband, David Smith, and her brother Wayne Dicks. She was married to David Smith until his death in 1992.

    She is survived by her husband, Kent Elder, and three children: Evelyn Smith Brewer (Mark) of Orlando, William (Billy) Smith (Marie)of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Elisa Smith Hewett (Joe) of Lake City. A sister, Dorothy Feagle (Aldine), and sister-in-law Betty Dicks also survive. Laveenia also leaves behind four step children: Kenny Elder (Lynda) of Groveland, FL, Dennis Elder of Groveland, FL, Gena Campbell of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, and Marc Elder of Lake Wales, FL. Five grandchildren Kyle Smith, Kaitlyn Thoreson, Jordyn Thoreson, Bethany Brewer, and Zoe Brewer also survive. She also leaves behind ten step grandchildren Ashley Bell, C.J. Elder, Collin Elder, Cara Elder, Caylee Elder, Colton Stryker, Delaney Elder, Derek Campbell, Hunter Campbell, and Landon Campbell. A number of nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Elder will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Hopeful Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.     Wayne Thomas Dicks, 75, of Union County, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville following a sudden illness. He was born in Columbia County to the late Park Trammell Dicks and Evelyn Moore Dicks. Mr. Dicks was raised in Chiefland, Florida and was a graduate of the 1960 class of Chiefland High School where he lettered in track, basketball and football. He was a resident of Lake City since 1966 and had recently moved to Union County. Mr. Dicks owned and operated Wayne’s Barber Shop in Lake City for 41 years, retiring in 2001. Wayne obeyed the gospel in February of 1982 and was a member of the Glen Springs Church of Christ in Gainesville. He was a true southern gentleman and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, riding horses, working his cows, and above all, spending time with his family.

    Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Lene Henderson Dicks, Lake Butler; one daughter, Dawn Melinda Dicks, Lake City; one son and daughter in law, Wayne Trammell and Roslyn Dicks, Lake Butler; six grandchildren, Thomas Lindboe, Lake Butler, Jason Lindboe, Lulu, Dakota Lindboe (Amanda), Fort Bragg, NC, Trammell Dicks and Park Dicks both of Mary Esther, FL and Hillary Dicks Carew (Travis), Bartow; eight great grandchildren, Brantlee Dicks, Waylon Dicks, Kenlie Lindboe, Ally Lindboe, Ethan Lindboe, Paisley Lindboe, Kayla Lindboe and Gracelynn Carew; two sisters, Laveenia Dicks Elder (Kent) and Dorothy Dicks Feagle (Aldine) both of Lake City; several nieces and nephews as well as all the boys who’s hair he cut during his 41 year career at Wayne’s Barber Shop.

    Our beloved mother, Shirley "LaTreva" Dickman, died peacefully in the early morning of September 26, after bidding goodbye to the last of her eight children. She was interred on September 30, 2019 in the Hopeful Baptist Cemetery in Mason, Columbia County, Florida, next to her parents, Ora Lee Dicks and Johnnie Frederick Milton, Sr. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the LDS Bumby Chapel, 4020 S. Bumby Ave, Orlando, FL, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019. A life celebration will follow with a Luau from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the same location.

    LaTreva grew up in Lake City, Florida and received her teaching degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. She loved quilting; many friends and family still have the quilts that she lovingly made and gave away. She was an Orange County Public School teacher for many years, working at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, Freedom Middle School, and Liberty Middle School. She also taught night school at William R. Boone High School, Colonial High School, and Mid-Florida Technical School. She loved teaching in the Orlando area, where she lived for over fifty years. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for many years in various capacities in the church.

    She is survived by her sister, Joanne Wilkes of Chapin, SC, brother, Johnnie Frederick Milton, Jr. of Spotsylvania, VA, and children, Shannon Lee Barabas of Gillette, WY, Otto Frederick Dickman IV of Mexico City, Mexico, Jason Thad Dickman of Orlando, FL, Mieke Carroll Gooch of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Amber Lavonne Dickman of Orlando, FL, Kipling Scott Dickman of Orlando, FL, Kendall Ann Townsend of Denali, AK, and Ethan Milton Dickman of Frankfurt, Germany, along with fifteen grandchildren.

    Mr. James Earl Dicks Jr. 65, of Lake City passed away Saturday evening at home. One minute he was watching the Gators play and then the next minute he went home to the Lord. James, had the chance to do things he enjoyed, a member of the Columbia High All State Championship team 1n 1967, a fifth generation farmer, a Corrections officer with the rank of Captain when he retired. An honor he was given was being selected Correctional officer of the year in 1997 at Columbia CI.

    James is preceded in death by his son Patrick his parents Earl and Helen Norris Dicks and sister, Linda Steedley. He loved to hunt and fish, travel, and did beautiful wood working projects and could fix or build just about anything until his health declined, then he could "supervise". He returned home to Lake City after his retirement and was once again in the fields that he loved. His last trip to the farm was that afternoon to check the peas, greens, and hogs with his son (and talk about the game he was going to watch).

    He leaves behind his wife Michele Simpson Dicks, sons Stephen Michael and Christopher Kyle Dicks, daughters Jenifer Boutwell and Kate Mitchell all of Lake City, FL; along with four grandchildren and two great grandchildren a brother Edward Dicks.

    A memorial service will be held Thursday October 16, 2014 at Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home Chapel, at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Daryl Tomlinson officiating.

    Mr. Richard E. Dicks, age 66, passed away February 9th after an extended illness. He was a life long resident of Columbia County and was son of the late Elvin Dicks and Ann Harrell. He also was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Walter and Clara Dicks. One sister survives.

    The most important thing he did was 3 weeks prior to death he asked Jesus to come into his heart and by faith accepted Him as his personal Lord and Savior.

    A graveside memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 27th, 1:00 p.m. at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Rodriguez officiating.

    Kenneth O. “Kenny” Dicks, Jr., 55, a resident of Lake City, Florida passed away Thursday March 10, 2011 at the Lake City Medical Center.

    Mr. Dicks was a lifelong resident of Lake City. He was a fourth generation farmer and was proud of the family farm sacrificing so that the farm would stay intact for future generations and passed his passion of farming to his sons. He was awarded the Outstanding Successful Tobacco Farmer served on the board of the Florida Farm Bureau, Lake City, Fl.

    He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth O. Dicks, Sr. and one son, Kenneth John Dicks.

    He was a member of the Hopeful Baptist Church. Kenny was a very giving person and loved to give and help those in need.

    Survivors include his Wife: Ann Dicks, Lake City, Fl. son: Jason Dicks, Lake City, Fl. Mother: Myrtle Dicks, Lake City, Fl. Four sisters: Linda (Ron) VandeVoren, Janet (Larry) Lones, Darlene (Wayne) Green and Lisa (Mike) Gravel all of Lake City, Fl. Three Brothers: Ralph (Linda) Dicks, Lake Butler, Fl. Donald Dicks, Lake Butler, Fl. and Jeff Dicks, Lake City, Fl. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. His faithful and loving canine, Marcel.

    Funeral services for Mr. Dicks will be conducted Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hopeful Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Baker and the Rev. George Kerce, officiating.

    Interment will follow in the Hopeful Baptist Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

    Mr. Jeffery 'Jeff' Scott Dicks, 49 of Lake City, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center on Monday, December 30, 2013. Mr. Dicks was a lifelong resident of Lake City. Mr. Dicks was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1982 and graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics. He had a hard work ethic and loved working with numbers as all mathematicians do. Mr. Dicks also enjoyed the family farm, gardening and working in the engineering profession. He was a lifelong member of Hopeful Baptist Church. Mr. Dicks was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Otto Dicks, Sr. in 1975, mother, Myrtle Lee Kerley Dicks in 2011, one brother, Kenneth 'Kenny' Otto Dicks, Jr. in 2011 and one nephew, Kenneth 'Ken' John Dicks in 2001.

    Mr. Dicks is survived by two brothers, Ralph (Linda) and Donald Dicks, both of Lake Butler; four sisters, Linda (Ron) Vandevoren, Janet (Larry) Lones, both of Lake City, Darlene (Wayne) Green of Lake Butler and Lisa (Mike) Gravel of Lake City; one niece, Jacqueline Britt; three nephews, Brian Chase, Jason Dicks and Jacob Gravel all of Lake City.

    Funeral services for Mr. Dicks will be conducted on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. George Kerce and Rev. Mark Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home.     We celebrate the life and influence of Freda Marlene Crawford, who was born in Lake City, Florida, October 12, 1949 and joined Jesus Christ and other loved ones November 12, 2009. Freda was an accomplished woman. She was an honors graduate of Columbia County High School, and then the president of the student body at Lake City Community College. She completed her B.S. from the University of West Florida and her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Florida.

    For 17 years she taught science at Buchholz High School until she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 1999. After treatment, she completed her Ph.D. and taught as an adjunct professor in Science Education as long as her health allowed.

    More important to her than work and education was her family. She modeled the love and support of a faithful wife, mother, and then grandmother of four-- with boundless energy and excitement. Her family was the joy and the focus of her life.

    But even more important to her was her faith in Christ. Having made a commitment of her life to Christ at the age of nine, she became a life-long, devoted follower of His. Her faith was the driving force of her life, and in her everyone saw the embodiment of one of her favorite scriptures, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) She stood alongside her husband of thirty-nine years, Gary L. Crawford, pastor of Westside Baptist Church for the past 28 years. She carried on her own ministry of prayer, teaching, music--as both an instrumentalist and vocalist--and engaged in mission work around the world. She profoundly loved her church family at Westside, and her shared ministry with them was a passion in her life. She was deeply grateful for their love and support as she battled her disease across ten years. This love and gratitude were expressed in her CD "Praise for God's Sustaining Hand" and in the book that she and Dr. Fran Terhune edited for her husband, "In Celebration of Love, Marriage and Sex," based on the Song of Solomon.

    The work of the Florida Baptist Convention, especially the establishment of a Florida Baptist Children's Home in the area, was also central in her ministry. From the Convention, she received the honor of "Pastor's Wife of the Year" just a few days before her Homegoing.

    She leaves a legacy of faith, love, courage, and commitment to family, ministry, and community. The song she sang on her CD, "Touch Through Me," reflects the passion of her life; she said, "This song expresses my commitment to be available to Him."

    Her husband Gary, children (and spouses) John & Tina Crawford, Christa & Bill Latham, and grandchildren Cade, Michael, Johanna, and Lachlan, mother Alice Mangle, and brother Ronnie Mangle wish to express gratitude to the many friends who have brought prayer and encouragement into their lives. We invite all to celebrate her life and faith on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:00 am at Westside Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake City, FL at 2:00 pm.

    She worked as a bookkeeper with Hopeful Baptist Church for over twenty years and was a member at Hopeful Baptist Church for many years.

    She is survived by her husband, Terrell Lee Cutford of Lake City, Florida; One daughter, Diana Feagle of Lake City, Florida; Two sons, Terrell “Scooter” Cutford and Robert Cutford both of Lake City, Florida; her mother, Clara F. Dicks of Lake City, Florida; one sister, Donna K. Dicks of Lake City, Florida; one brother, Randy Dicks of Lake City, Florida; Seven grandchildren also survive.

    A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Cutford will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 18, in the Hopeful Baptist Church with Rev. Burl D Harkey, Pastor of the Northside Baptist Church, officiating.

    Interment will be in Hopeful Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida.
