    Eva C. Wheeler, 98, resident of Lake City, FL, died at the Health Center of Lake City, Thursday, January 13, 2011. Eva was a native of Columbia County, daughter of the late Arrie Rhoden Crews and Joe Crews. She was the oldest living charter member of Parkview Baptist Church. The oldest of twelve children, family was her life. She enjoyed making biscuits, dumplings and turnip greens for the people she loved.

    Eva is preceded in death by her husband Willie Wheeler and two children, Alton and Frances. Her survivors include: her two sons, Edwin (Priscilla) and Wendell Wheeler. Seven grandchildren: Lisa Worthington Dawson (Mark), Becky Worthington Dampier (Chris), Doyle Worthington, Jr. (Daleann), Wendi Wheeler Meek (Craig), Lori Wheeler Pashley (Ryan), John Wheeler (Casandra), Mark Wheeler (Kristy) and fourteen great grandchildren. Of her twelve brothers and sisters, Eva is survived by Otis, Paul, Eldridge "Bill", Emma Jean Morrell and Lenvil.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Tatem officiating and Rev. Bill Wood. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5 PM to 7 PM located at 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, FL (386) 752-1954. Please sign guest book at

    Frances W. Worthington, 74, resident of Lake City, Fl, died at Suwannee Valley Care Center Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 after an extended illness.

    She was a native of Columbia County, daughter of Eva Crews Wheeler and the late Willie W. Wheeler, and had made her home here her entire life. She was a charter member of Parkview Baptist Church and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her family and loved her children and grandchildren very much. She also enjoyed gardening, ceramics and reading.

    Survivors include her Husband, Doyle E. Worthington, Sr., Lake City, Florida. One son, Doyle E. Worthington, Jr. (Daleann) Jasper, Florida. Two daughters, Lisa Dawson (Mark), Lake City, Florida and Becky Dampier (Chris), Lake City, Florida. Her Mother, Eva Crews Wheeler, Lake City, Fl. Two brothers, Ed Wheeler (Pris), of Lake City, Florida and Wendell W. Wheeler, Lake City, Florida. Eight grandchildren, Clint Proveaux, Taylor Dampier, Katelynn Dampier, Zachary Dawson, Emily Dawson, Marisa Dawson, Anna-Marie Worthington, and Doyle E. Worthington, III.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Tatem and Rev. Hugh Dampier officiating.

    Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

    Visitation will Monday, Feb. 22, 2010 from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haven Hospice, at Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 U.S. Highway 90 West, Lake City, Fl 32055.

    Ed Wheeler, 80, of Lake City, Florida, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Haven Hospice - Suwannee Valley Care Center.

    Born in Lake City to Willie and Eva Crews Wheeler, Ed grew up selling newspapers and peanuts with his brother, Wendell, on the streets of downtown Lake City. He graduated from Columbia High School, where he was Student Body President. After high school, he entered the United States Navy, serving on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt. After the Navy, he returned to Lake City to work at the Lake City Fire Department for several years. Never one to sit still, Ed decided his career path would be to become an independent insurance agent. In pursuit of that goal, he began taking classes for an Associate of Arts degree at Florida Gateway College (then known as Lake City Junior College) in 1962. While in college and working at Bruce’s Clothing Store, he met Priscilla McMillin of Kissimmee, Florida, who he married in 1963. After earning his associate degree, Ed and Priscilla moved to Tallahassee where Ed studied Risk Management & Insurance at Florida State University. After earning his Bachelor Degree from the FSU College of Business, Ed was hired as a property/casualty underwriter by Travelers Insurance Company. After several years of experience with Travelers, Ed notified his managers that he was returning to Lake City to open an insurance agency. Travelers awarded Ed his first agency contract. The year was 1969: Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, Ed opened the Ed Wheeler Agency and their first son, John, was born. For almost fifty years, Ed provided insurance to families and businesses in North Florida. During his business life, he was active in the Lake City Jaycees and Lake City Chamber of Commerce. Ed was an active member of Gateway Baptist Church, where he was a greeter. Ed excelled at making visitors feel welcome in the “Family of God”.

    Ed is survived by his wife Priscilla Wheeler; two sons, John Wheeler (Casandra), Lake City, FL and Mark Wheeler (Karen “Kristie”), Tallahassee, Florida; two grandchildren, Josiah Wheeler (John) and Blake Wheeler (Mark); one dog, Waldo. His survivors, though, are not limited to his immediate family, many see him as dad, uncle or grandpa. He was generous with his love and affection.

    A visitation will be held for family and friends at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home located at 3596 South US Hwy 441, Lake City, Florida on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. in the Gateway Baptist Church located at 3252 SW State Rd 247, Lake City, FL on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Jon Kent, pastor of Gateway Baptist Church and Steve Thompson, retired, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gateway Baptist Church Youth Programs, 3252 SW State Road 247, Lake City, Florida 32024.

    Wendell Wayne Wheeler, 79, died of complications from pneumonia.

    He was born on August 19, 1941 in Lake City, Florida and died November 27, 2020. Wendell was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Columbia High School before he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Roosevelt. He graduated from Florida State University where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Wendell earned an Accounting degree and opened his own CPA office in Lake City in 1971.

    He proudly served the Lake City community through his practice and through various community service organizations for over fifty years. He was a world traveler, a voracious reader and he loved the life he lived.

    He is predeceased by his parents, Willie and Eva Crews Wheeler, his brothers Alton and Edwin Wheeler and his sister Frances Wheeler Worthington.

    He is survived by his daughters, Wendi Wheeler Meek (Craig) and Lori Wheeler Pashley (Ryan), and his grandchildren Abigail Allen, Grace Allen, Caroline Allen, Finnley Pashley and Avery Pashley.
