    In Starkville, MS, on Friday, January 21, 2022, Inez Greene Mathis, age 93 was received home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    A graveside celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Corinth Church, Lake City FL, Visitation will be graveside from 1:00 pm until service time. Rev.     Inez Greene Mathis was born April 10, 1928 in Lake City, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents Allie and Henry "Hicky" Greene, her husband of 53 years, Leon H. Mathis, Jr., her sons Donald Edward Whitehead, Jr. "Eddie" and Michael Ray Whitehead "Mike". She is survived by her sister, Ernestine Saunders, Lake City, FL a nephew Richard Saunders, Lake City, FL, her daughters, Nancy Whitehead Martin, Starkville, MS, and Rhonda Mathis Shotts (Charles), Louisville, MS and her sons, Leon H. Mathis, III "Matt" and Mark Lee Mathis, Starkville, MS. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren Rebecca Tucker (Dave), Laurel Scobee (Nick), Ryan Shotts (Katie), Caleb Mathis, Seth Mathis and Paul Mathis and 5 great grandchildren.

    Inez was born and raised in Lake City, FL, attended Columbia High School where she was a member of the basketball team. She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, Lake City, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, RA’s, GA’s and WMU. She was also very active in the community, CHS Band Association, PTA, Women’s Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She continued her service to First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS, teaching Sunday School, WMU, Foreign Missions and delivering flowers to members unable to attend services. Inez touched many lives and will be truly missed.

    Ernestine G. Saunders, 94, of Lake City died Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Shands at UF in Gainesville. A native of Columbia County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Nathan and Allie Pearce Greene and had lived her whole life in Lake City. Mrs. Saunders graduated from Columbia High School in 1947 and had worked at Rosiers 5 & 10, J.C. Penney, Globe Finance, The Polio Foundation, and with lawyers Jopling, Black and Hodges. In 1951 she married Ray E. Saunders and they started their family that they raised in Lake City and was a long time member of Parkview Baptist Church. Mrs. Saunders was preceded in death by her husband Ray, daughters Mary Ann Blanton, Kay Saunders, and Rita Lehman.

    Mrs. Saunders is survived by her son Richard “Ricky” Saunders; grandsons, Justin Blanton, Colin Blanton, and Walker Lehman; special sister in law, Allegra Saunders; nieces and nephews, Nancy Whitehead Martin, Rhonda Shotts, Matt and Mark Mathis; many cousins and a host of special friends.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Saunders will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Parkview Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Tatem officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund or Missions, 268 NW Lake Jeffery Road, Lake City, FL 32055, Gideons International, P.O.     Mr. Donald E. (Eddie) Whitehead, Jr., 60, died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was born on May 13, 1947 in Lake City and graduated from Columbia High School and Lake City Community College. Mr. Whitehead was a former firemen and E.M.T. with the Lake City Fire Department, a Security Guard with the Florida Dept. of Corrections and the Mississippi Dept. of Corrections. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake City, FL and First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS. He served ten years in the Army with three years in Vietnam, where he was a specialist 4th Class, 82nd Airborne. Mr. Whitehead earned the Purple Heart, Marksman, Airborne, Paratrooper, and Bronze Star medals. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Whitehead, Sr.; and his grandparents, H.N. (Hickey) and Allie Pearce Greene of Lake City and G.A. and Laura Whitehead of Lake City.

    Mr. Whitehead is survived by his mother and step-father, Inez Green Mathis and Leon H. Mathis, Jr., Starkville, MS; sisters, Nancy Whitehead Martin (Mitch), Starkville, MS and Rhonda Mathis Shotts (Charles), Louisville, MS; three brothers, Michael R. Whitehead (Martha), Columbia, MO; Matt Mathis (Kathy), Starkville, MS and Mark Mathis (Whitney), Starkville, MS; a special friend, Sue Warren of Fayette, AL; nephews, Ryan Shotts, Louisville, MS; Caleb, Seth, and Paul Mathis all of Starkville, MS and nieces, Becky and Laurel Whitehead also survive.

    Graveside services will be conducted, Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Corinth Cemetery in Lake City with Reverend Mark Mathis officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday evening at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.     Michael Ray Whitehead, 69, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on August 25, 2019.

    Michael was born in Lake City, Florida, in 1949. He graduated from Columbia County High School. He served his country in the army and then received a degree in engineering from University of Florida.
    Michael was married to Martha King in 1968; they were married 47 years.

    Michael worked as a nuclear engineer for 42 years. He was known for his sense of humor, kindness, and intelligence, and he enjoyed reading, woodworking, and camping.

    Michael is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and David Tucker and Laurel and Nick Scobee; grandchildren Elizabeth Tucker, Sophia Tucker, Sean Scobee, and Isla Scobee; mother Inez Greene Mathis; stepfather Leon Houston Mathis, Jr.; sister Nancy Whitehead Martin; step siblings Matthew Mathis, Rhonda Mathis Shotts, and Mark Mathis; and former spouse Martha Whitehead.

    Michael is preceded in death by his father and brother, Donald Edward Whitehead and Donald Edward Whitehead, Jr.

    The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on September 21, 2019, at Corinth Cemetery in Lake City, Florida. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org).
