HISTORY: Mr. Wilkes was born April 1, 1934 in Chesterfield County, SC, a son of the late Alex and Bertha Brown Wilkes. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Chesterfield County Road Department and a U.S. Army Veteran. Pete enjoyed the beach, fishing, motorcycles, and cars. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Griggs Wilkes; and by four brothers, A.J., Topsy, Monroe, and Jack Wilkes.

CHERAW - Alex James "A.J." Wilks, 75, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 from Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 670, Hartsville, S.C. 29551.
Born in Chesterfield County, Mr. Wilks was a son of the late Alex and Bertha Brown Wilks. He was a retired employee of Sonoco Industries and was a member of Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Wilks was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Clarice Freeman Wilks; three brothers, Dewey Lee Wilks and Peter Wilks of Ruby, and Eugene "Brother" Wilks of China Grove, N.C.; two sisters, Ida Belle Stevens of Kershaw, and Louise Gainey of Hartsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were entrusted to Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
