    Townsend- Roger C. Sapp, 83, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Sapp was born in Evans County and had lived in Townsend since 1982. He was raised in Evans County and moved to Liberty County before entering the United States Air Force. He lived in Jesup where he was baptized at the Jesup First Baptist Church in 1948. He retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service. Mr. Sapp was a faithful member of the South Newport Baptist Church where he taught the Roger Sapp Sunday School Class for 27 years; served as the Church Clerk, was a member of the Nominating, Stewardship and Pulpit Committees and the Baptist Brotherhood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minor and Sallie Sapp; his brothers, Raymond, Herbert, J.P., Colon, Hollis and Harry; his sisters, Ruby, Juanita and Sallie Kate.

    Survivors are his wife, Maggie Lee Walker Sapp of Townsend, four daughters, Sandy Cain of Idaho Falls, ID; Karen Faulk and husband Mark of Destin, FL; Lorraine Harvey, Elaine Bradley and husband Tommy of Darien; a sister, Versie Cribbs of Claxton; grandchildren, Amy Tyson, James Davis, Freddie English, Christopher English, Brandi Tomlinson, Lucy LaRoche Diaz and Heidi Faulk; great grandchildren, Blake, Dylan, Melaine, Sailina, Mylee, Lance and Madelyn; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

    Visitation will be held Monday. December 26, 2011 from 6-8 pm at South Newport Baptist Church.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. from South Newport Baptist Church with the Reverend Harry Coursey and Reverend Eric Grissino officiating.

    Interment will be at the Georgia Veterans Cemetery in Glennville at 3:00 P.M.

    Active pallbearers will be Ivy Rozier, Glenn Townsend, Ben Townsend, John Wilson, Ernest Poppell and Owen Green.

    Honorary pallbearers will be the Roger Sapp Sunday School Class of South Newport Baptist Church.
