    Bernice J. Powell, 81, of Claxton died Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. Born in Collins, the son of Matthew and Inez Holland Powell, he was a graduate of Collins High School and served in the Air National Guard. He had lived most of his life in Claxton. Bernice retired after 34 years as an agent with Southland Life Insurance where he received several Agent of the Year awards. In high school, he began singing tenor in a gospel quartet. In later years, they became the Hymnsmen where they travelled all over the south eastern United States recording albums and singing concerts for 58 years. On one of their first concerts, he met Betty Hodges, who became his wife and biggest supporter. Bernice was an avid fisherman and hunter. His last years were spent hauling and sharing produce enjoying friends along the way.

    Preceding him in death was his wife of 58 years, Betty Hodges Powell and his beloved daughter, Patti Powell; his parents; five siblings, Howard and Rabun Powell, Wilma P. Meeks, Audrey P. Hill and Lucy P. Smith.

    Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Jimmy Morris; two grandchildren, Laci B. and husband, Daniel McEachin and Brandon Boyett; two great grandchildren, Austin and Logan McEachin all of Claxton; several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 am, at Pine Grove Baptist Church near Collins with Elder Lee Price and Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Stan Hill, Rufus Powell, Don Powell, Billy Hill, Jimmy Meeks, Mark Tootle and Joey Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be all former members of the Hymnsmen Quartet.     REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Audrey Powell Hill, 86, passed away Sunday morning at Camilla Health and Rehabilitation Center in Claxton.

    Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

    Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Reidsville Baptist Church.

    Interment: Reidsville City Cemetery.

    MEEKS, Wilma Mrs. Wilma P. Meeks, born September 1, 1923, in Tattnall County, GA, went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez Holland Powell and Matthew Leonard Powell; brothers, Howard R. Powell and Rabun K. Powell; sisters, Lucy P. Smith and Audrey P. Hill; husband, James Carl Meeks; and daughter, Beverly M. Phillips. She is survived by her brother, Bernice "Buddy" J. Powell of Claxton, GA; her sons, James Carl Meeks, Jr. of Dacula, GA, Roger Paul Meeks of Hoschton, GA, George Andrew Meeks of Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer Phillips, Adam Phillips, Michael Paul Meeks, Melissa M. Lewis, Andrew Meeks, Jonathan Meeks, Shannon M. Mitchell, Zachary Meeks, and Joshua Meeks; great grandchildren, Emily Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Daniel Meeks and Walker Meeks; and numerous nieces and nephews. A blessed wife and mother, Wilma spent her life in service to others and to the Lord, including two years in Liberia, West Africa, with her husband and children. Of her, the scriptures declare, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." She is at rest. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 14, from 6 to 8 PM, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 15, at 1:00 PM, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons.

    Patti Christine Powell, 44, of Claxton died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at her sister's home under the loving care of her family. Born with Down Syndrome, Patti's life was unique and wonderful. Travelling with her Dad while he sang with the Hymnsmen was a highlight of her years which gave her a love of gospel music. She enjoyed reading books, playing basketball, little babies and eating out. Patti loved everybody giving lots of hugs whether she knew you or not. Patti was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Hodges Powell, just one year ago.

    Survivors are her father, Bernice Powell; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Jimmy Morris all of Claxton; niece, Laci and her husband, Daniel McEachin and a nephew, Brandon Boyett; and a great nephew, Austin McEachin.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 pm, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Rogers and Elder Lee Price officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
