Leonard F. Murray

Mr. Leonard F. Murray, 75, a lifelong resident of Columbia County died early Wednesday morning, February 2, 2011 in the Suwannee Health Care Center following an extended illness.

The son of the late Daniel N. "Dutch" and Lula Milton Murray, Mr. Murray had worked as a self-employed truck driver for many years. He had been disabled for the past thirty years having suffered several strokes. Prior to his ill health Mr. Murray had enjoyed farming, dirt track racing and still enjoyed Florida Gator football. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Murray, a son, Timmy Murray his grandchildren, Anissa Sapp and Levy Sapp III and his son-in-law, Levy Sapp, Jr. all victims of the 1993 "Storm of the Century" and most recently by his daughter, Melinda Johnson.

Mr. Murray is survived by his sons, Danny Murray (Shannon) of Wellborn; Jerry Murray of Wellborn; and Jason Murray (Ree) of Lake City; his sister, Julia Murray Travis of Lake City and his six grandchildren, Robbie Murray, Brad Murray, Kellyn Murray, Miranda Johnson, Meghan Johnson and Hollyn Murray.

Funeral services for Mr. Murray will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Gateway Baptist Church with Rev. Bo Hammock and Rev. Rick McCall officiating.

Interment will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Wellborn.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Melinda Lee Johnson, 38, of Lake City, died early Saturday morning, April 21, 2007, in the Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley following a valiant battle with cancer. Melinda was born in Lake City and raised in Suwannee County. She was a member of the 1986 graduating class of Suwannee High School. She went to work at Publix and has been an employee there for the past twenty-two years. She had been the assistant manager of the Lake City Publix for the past six years. In her spare time Melinda volunteered with the P.T.O. at Westside Elementary School and was very active with the United Way and the Relay for Life. Her favorite time was the time that she spent with her children. Melinda was a Christian. She was preceded in death in 1993 by two children, Levy D. Sapp III "Trey"; Anissa Leigh Sapp; her mother, Barbara Lee "Bobbie" Murray; and a brother, Timothy DeWitt "Timmy" Murray.

Melinda is survived by her husband, Stanley R. Johnson Jr. "Butch" of Lake City; her daughters, Miranda Leigh Johnson and Meghan Lynn Johnson, both of Lake City; her father, Leonard F. Murray of Live Oak, Florida; three brothers, Danny Murray and Jason Murray both of Lake City; Jerry Murray of Wellborn; her aunts, Pat Gaylord & Linda Musgrove both of Wellborn; and her father & mother-in-law, Stanley & Betty Johnson of Live Oak.

Graveside funeral services for Melinda L. Johnson will be conducted at 4:00 P.M., Monday, April 23, 2007, in the Mount Beulah Cemetery with Rev. Bo Hammock officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-6 Sunday evening. It was Melinda's wish that her funeral service be very casual and in keeping with these wishes the family requests that everyone come dressed in blue jeans. She also requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Miranda & Meghan Johnson College Fund at any local Mercantile Bank location.

Mr. Jerry Dwayne Murray, 50, of Wellborn, Florida, passed away Wednesday afternoon in the Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Suwannee County, Mr. Murray was the son of the late Leonard and Barbara “Bobbie” Howell Murray. He had worked as a truck driver for many years until his recent ill health. Mr. Murray was an avid Florida Gator fan, he loved NASCAR and was passionate about riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He attended The Vineyard church. Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bobbie Murray; his brother, Timmy Murray, his sister, Melinda Murray Johnson; his niece, Anissa Sapp and his nephew, Levy “Trey” Sapp III.

Mr. Murray is survived by his brothers, Danny Murray (Susan) of Fort White, Florida; Jason Murray (Ree) of Lake City; three aunts, Julia Travis of Lake City; Linda Musgrove and Pat (Walter) Gaylord both of Wellborn, Florida. His nieces and nephews, Robbie Murray (Rebecca), Brad Murray, Kellyn Murray, Miranda Johnson, Meghan Johnson and Hollyn Murray also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Murray will be conducted at 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Gateway Baptist Church with Rev. Bo Hammock and Rev. Rick McCall officiating. Private family interment services will be held later. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 Friday evening in the Chapel of the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Dees-Parrish Family Funeral Home for disbursement to various charities.
