Arthur (Art) Aukema

Arthur (Art) Aukema, age 89 of Chipley, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Art was born March 16, 1922 in St. Parrish County Ohio to the late Robert and Fannie (Osinga) Aukema and had moved to Chipley in 1951, coming from Sussex, New Jersey. He was a self-employed dairyman, a member of the Chipley First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men’s church group, a member of the Chipley Kiwanis for 25 years, a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Washington County Farm Bureau, Southeast Milk Inc., the Florida Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc. and the Florida Cattlemen’s Association.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter, Joy Aukema Tapps. Survivors include; his wife, Bonnie Aukema of Chipley; two sons, Robert Aukema and his wife Sharon of Scottsdale, Arizona, Gary Aukema and his wife Karen of Chipley; two daughters, Ann Hanson and her husband Harvey of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and Patricia Dickson and her husband Buddy of Chipley; three brothers, Bill Aukema of Grandville, Michigan, Mark Aukema of Hudsonville, Michigan and Nelson Aukema of Byron Center, Michigan; three sisters, Hilda Aukeman of Grandville, Michigan, Gracie Hutt of Marion, New York and Elsie Hayboar of Michigan; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10 A.M. in the Chipley First Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry May, Rev. Oliver Scott and Rev. David Warren officiating.
Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 20 from 3 to 5 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home, Main Street Chapel.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the building fund of Chipley First Methodist Church, 1285 Jackson Ave. Chipley, Florida 32428.

Joy Carol Aukema Taps, a senior attorney with the Office of the Attorney General of Tallahassee, died Monday, Nov.29, 2005.
She was a native of Chipley and lived in Tallahassee since 1992. she was an active member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church. She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her generosity, loving nature and essential goodness were an inspiration to others.
Survivors include her husband, Marc E. Tapps; parents, Art and Bonnie Aukema of Chipley; brothers, Bob Aukema and wife Sharon of Phoenix, Ariz., Gary Aukema and wife Karen of Chipley; and sisters, Pat Dickson and husband Buddy of Sneads, and Ann Hanson and husband Harvey of Ft. Walton Beach. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and grand-nieces; and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. (CST), Friday, Dec. 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Chipley, with the Revs. Lee Allen and Oliver Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery, with Brown Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. (CST), today, Dec. 1, at Brown Funeral Home, on Highway 77 in Chipley.
Those asked to serve as active pallbearers are Jay Dickson, Jay Burrell, Daron Sanders, Ryan Boyd, Adam Kemp, Chris Hanson, Ryan Aukema and Kacey Aukema.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. (EST), Monday, Dec. 5, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 2198 Meridian Rd., in Tallahassee. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Ben Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Fla., 32308; or to the Joy Taps Memorial Fund, c/o Community South Bank of Chipley, Fla., 1044 Highway 90, Chipley, Fla.
