    Funeral services for Samuel G. Smith, 83, of Pensacola, Fla., former Bainbridge resident, will be held today, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bruce Sheffield and Gina Adams-Riley officiating.

    Interment will follow in Myrtle Grove Cemetery with nephews, Stanley Youngblood, Ronald Smith, Dennis Smith, Stanley Smith, Alan Smith, Terry Dwayne Smith, Eddie Smith and Terry Lee Smith serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Oglesby, Christopher Lupton, Bill Brown, Jim Benton and Jim Potter.

    A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the services.

    Mr. Smith died Tuesday, March 23, 2004. A native of Bainbridge, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during which he received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. In 1953 he co-founded Smith Plumbing and Heating with his brother, Hubert Smith. He was an active member of Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church since 1947, past president of the Pensacola Symphony, and a member of the Pensacola Suburban West Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Irene Smith.

    Survivors include his son, Roland G. Smith of Pensacola; a daughter, Sandra Chancellor, also of Pensacola; four brothers, Willis Smith of Bainbridge, and Hubert Smith, Leonard Smith and Julian Smith, all of Pensacola; six step-grandchildren and other relatives.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Myrtle Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 3225, Pensacola, FL 32516.
