    Archie Monroe Matthis, 72, of 50 Union School Road, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.

    A funeral will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, with the Reverend Chuck Yancey officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Hill Universalist Church Cemetery.

    Monroe, born in 1945 in Durham County, was the son of the late Eugene Monroe Matthis and Obie Atwood Ezzell Matthis. He was a farmer and a member of Red Hill Universalist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-laws, Ricky and David Kornegay.

    Survivors include; his wife, Kathy Matthis; son, Michael Monroe Matthis and wife Charleeia Renee Matthis; grandchildren, Matthew Matthis, Caitlin Matthis, Stacy Jarrett, Lee Jarrett, Michael Matthis, Jr.; and brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Jack Kornegay, Allen Kornegay, Melvin Kornegay and wife Dixie, Anne Miller, Brenda Taylor and husband Ronnie and Betty Lou Sisk.

    Mr. Lester Leonard Caison, age 78, of 343 Stevens Street, Wallace, died Thursday, October 28, 2004, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Wilmington. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Poston Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

    He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Brown Caison of the home; two sons, Leonard Caison of Wallace and Gary Caison and friend Jan English of Teachey; one sister, Mrs. Juanita Blanton of Falls Church, VA; and one brother, Morris Caison of Snow Camp.

    Born in Pender County, Mr. Caison was the son of the late William James Caison and wife Summerfield Benson Caison. A brother, Ethridge Caison, also predeceased him. Mr. Caison was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was a member of Poston Baptist Church.

    Casketbearers will be members of the Wallace Fire Department.

He was born in Pender County on September 7, 1930 to the late William “Bill” James Caison and Summerfield Benson Caison and was the husband of 58 years to Eunice Ward Caison who passed away in 2014 at the age of 82. He and Eunice would’ve celebrated 66 years of marriage on October 13th.

    Casey was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was employed with Weyerhaeuser Builders where he retired after many years of service. He enjoyed gardening, tractors and watching his favorite Westerns. He’d always claim that “time takes care of everything”. One of his greatest joys was rides on the Gator with his great grandchildren. Casey never met a stranger and was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.

    Survivors include his son, Jeff Caison of Graham; daughter, Becky Caison of Snow Camp; grandchildren, Amanda Young (Steven), Kasey Uthus (Ron), Seth Caison (Natalie), Drew Caison (Ivey) and Barrett Caison; great grandchildren, Ryan Woods, Landon Uthus, Macon Uthus, Emily Young, Wyatt Young and Gibbs Caison and a sister, Juanita Campbell (Steve) of Luray, VA.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter, Penny Lynn Caison; great granddaughter, Angel Young and three brothers, Ethridge, Lester and Jimmy Caison.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Andy Clapp with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Kasey and Ron Uthus, 1401 Branson Dr. in Graham.

    Arnold was preceded in death by Trudi, his wife of 50 years, his parents, his brother Allen and his wife Nadia, his sister Alice Phelps and her husband Dan Phelps, his brothers-in-law James Williamson and Linwood Howard, his sister-in-law Rachel Caison, and his daughter-in-law Mari Carmen Ortiz.     Arnold was a teacher in the Pender County school system for thirty years. In addition to his career as an English teacher, a shop teacher, and a vocational specialist, he was an Army soldier, railroad employee, carpenter, roofer, cabinet maker, wood craftsman, house builder, installer of all things, dulcimer maker, boat repairer, part-time Santa, EMT volunteer, gardener, farmer, coin collector, genealogy expert, photographer, expert puzzle-solver, automotive expert, pun-creator, and cook. He instilled in his family his belief that it’s always better to be kind.

    Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at United Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Edward Dowd officiating.

    She was born April 9, 1933, in Pender County, NC, daughter of the late Archie L. and Agnes Blake Caison.

    Mrs. Phelps was a member of United Advent Christian Church where she was currently serving as the secretary and treasurer for the Sunday School. She also served as the church treasurer for many years, was a former president of the WHFMS, and was a Sunday School teacher.

    Mrs. Phelps retired from Bank of America following 44 years of service.

    Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Dan Phelps of the home; two children, Danny Phelps and wife Cheryl of Columbia, SC, and Kim Blackmon and husband Wayne of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Brandon Blackmon, Aaron Blackmon and Chandler Phelps; four brothers and sisters, Arnold Caison of Wallace, NC, Annette Williamson of Burgaw, NC, Faye Howard of Wilmington, NC, and Ray Caison of Burgaw, NC.

    WILMINGTON - Annette Caison Williamson, 81, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Pender County to Archie Lee and Agnes (Blake) Caison. She resided in New Hanover County.

    She attended Miller-Motte Business College and was employed with the State of North Carolina. Most recently, she worked part time for her church, United Advent Christian Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Williamson Jr.; brothers, Charles Allen Caison and Arnold Lee Caison; and one sister, Alice Caison Phelps.

    Survivors include her sister, Faye C. Howard; brother, Ray Caison (Alice); several nieces and nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

    A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, with visitation one hour prior to services at United Advent Christian Church, 4912 South College Road, Wilmington.     Albert Ray Caison, 77, of Burgaw passed from his earthly life Thursday, December 23, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

    He was born February 17, 1944, one of six children born to Archie Lee Caison and Agnes Earl Blake Caison. Also preceding Ray in death was his wife, Rachel Hunt Caison; and daughter, Teresa Eakins.

    He was born January 17, 1937 in Pender County, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Howard Caison. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judy Hayes and daughter-in-law, Julie Caison.

    Sammy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 39 years, Olivia Gail Caison; sons, Robert “Bubba” S.     She was a faithful Christian and a member of Penderlea Baptist Church.

    Michael Darren "Ziggy" Caison, 44, of Castle Hayne passed from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in Castle Hayne.

    He was born June 22, 1668 in Burgaw.

    Darren is survived by his mother, Shirley Kennedy Dawson; father, John David "J.D." Caison and his wife, Wanda; step-father, Sidney Dawson; daughters, Krystal Ward and Melinda Caison; son, Harley Caison; granddaughters, Madison and Hannah: brothers, David Caison, Darnell Dawson and Timmy Caison; sisters, Melissa Sadusky, Kathy Gusman and Toni Giddeons; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    Darren loved his family, especially his step-father, Sidney. He loved the outdoors and spent much time communing with nature. Darren loved his dog, Victoria. Darren's smile and his gentle laughter will be missed and remembered.

    Celebration of Life for Michael Darren Caison will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at his mother's home, 3421 Lynn Ave., Lot 11, Castle Hayne.

    In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Darren's family or to a homeless shelter of your choice.

    Man identified in river drowning

    The man who drowned while attempting to swim across the Northeast Cape Fear River on Monday has been identified as Michael Darren Caison.

    Caison, 43, went missing around noon Monday after telling family and friends he was going to swim across the river from Riverside Park in Castle Hayne, said New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jerry Brewer.

    According to witnesses, Caison went under water about a hundred yards from shore.

    After an extensive search by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, New Hanover County Fire Department and Pender County Emergency Services, Caison’s body was located just before 5 p.m. by side-scan sonar onboard the sheriff’s office boat.
