After attending Tift College in Forsythe, she worked for a short time with the AB&C Railroad, Waycross, then moved on to serve as principle at Inman School, north of Manor.

After her marriage in 1936, to Edwin L. Williams Sr., she lived in Waycross, Moultrie, Albany and Jesup where she was a homemaker and a schoolteacher.

In 1953, she moved with her family to Cottondale, Fla., which she soon adopted as a second hometown. While there she was an active member of the community and a frequent substitute teacher. She later served many years as city clerk, being named to that position which had been held by her late husband.
