- Mr. Paul Hayne Walker, Jr., 79, of Griffin, passed away January 27, 2004.
Mr. Walker was born January 5, 1925 in Spalding County, son of the late Paul Hayne Walker and the late Helen Hunt Griffin Walker. He was a lifetime member of St. George's Episcopal Church. He was President and CEO of Middle Georgia Mutual Insurance Company for many years and retired in 1992 but remained Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Elks Club and an active leader of the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Mr. Walker proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in Italy in the First Armored Division.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Sara Carolyn Melton Walker and son, William Hayne Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hardman Walker, daughters and their husbands, Sally Walker and Lewis Burger of Duluth, GA; Paula Walker and Walter E. Jones, Jr., of Griffin; Emily Jane Walker and Vincent Kochetta of Statesboro; grandchildren, Sara Burger of Auburn, AL; Lewis Walker Burger of Duluth; Julia Melton Burger also of Duluth; Walter Ellis Jones, III of Griffin; William Walker Jones, also of Griffin; Claire Mills Kochetta, Mary Carolyn Kochetta and Margaret McCormack Kochetta, all of Statesboro; sister, Katherine Walker Childs of Kirkland, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Paul Hayne Walker, Jr. will be held on Friday, January 30, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at St. George's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Newell Graham and The Rev. Paul S. Winton will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, January 29, 2004 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Those desiring may make donations to St. George's Episcopal Church, 132 N. 10th St., Griffin, GA 30223 in memory of Mr. Walker. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Rd., is in charge of arrangements.
