- Mr. James Joel "Joe" Williams, 74 of Hawthorne died Friday morning at Shands at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville after a brief illness. Mr. Williams was born in Union County where be lived most of his life. He worked in "Receiving" as a Correctional Officer for the Reception and Medical Center near Lake Butler before his retirement. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Lake City. He was a member of Lulu Advent Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan James Williams.
Mr. Williams is survived by: His wife: Ruth Ann Williams of Hawthorne. 2 Daughters: Johnnie Kaye Bell of Savannah, Ga. And Melissa Diane Holloway of Lake Butler. 4 Sons: James Michael Williams of Blackshear, Ga.; Mark Joseph Williams, Craig Joel Williams and Greg Wesley Williams all of Lake Butler. His mother: Barbara Lee Williams of Lulu. 2 Sisters: Joyce Ellen Kite of Middleburg and Barbara Victoria "Vickie" Blom of Lake Butler. 2 Brothers: Ivan Wayne Williams of Lake Butler and Kenny Michael Williams of Jacksonville. 14 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lulu Advent Christian Church with Rev. Butch Nelson officiating. Burial will Follow at New Zion Cemetery near Lulu. Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Archer Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M..
