  • Notes
    • This story came from the book "Stories from Haywood County" It was donated by Fannie Mae Miller Slade. Story number 471.

David Miller with his brother Jacob and his sister Kate, came to Haywood County bout 1815 to 1820. They were Dutch and came from Europe to America. Jacob married Matilda Justice, and although they had many children, only one lived to maturity. Her name was Mrs. Louisa Edwards and she died in West Ashville about 1925. Her parents died in Canton about 1901. Kate died as an aged woman, and she never married.

David Miller married Anne Fullbright just after he came to Haywood County. Twelve children were born to this union, all of whom lived to maturity. James died when a young man, but the other eleven reared families. David fought in the war of 1812, and died about 1875. His wife, Anne, died about 1852. They are buried at Morning Star Methodist Chruch in Canton which they helped to found, originally as a Lutheran Church but eventually changed to Methodist. Their graves are marked.

Their children were: James, died young; Elizabeth, married Jack Bolden; Jacob; Leander C.; Peter F.; Polly; Emeline; Eliza; Malinda; Mary Ann; Barbara; and Layfayette.

Leander C. married Celia L. Sharp on December 16, 1867. They lived in Dutch Cove where he farmed and dealt in lumber. He and his wife had 9 children. Ulysses G; Marion L; Gessa Rae; V. Melvin; Robert Lee; T. Eugene; Laura M. Tina C. and Edd Z....

....there is more to this story, but nothing else that pertains to this branch of the family....
