Immediately upon its organization the Regiment was ordered to
Virginia, where it joined the 2nd Florida, being assigned to
Pryor's Brigade; with which it took part in the Second Battle
of Manassas and in the Maryland campaign and won distinction at
    Sharpsburg.

After the return from Maryland the 5th was brigaded with the
other Florida regiments and became a part of Perry's immortal
brigade, surrendering at Appomattox Court House with but 6
officers and 47 men, the only representatives left for duty at

The following quote is from Rev. Lewis Hall Shuck's History of Churches and Ministers of Barnwell Association:

"Rev. William Green was next pastor (third pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Church constituted in 1843) and under his ministry, the church became much divided. Rev. Alexander Campbell made a tour through Barnwell District and his preaching and doctrine produced a division. The pastor and a part of the congregation went over to Campbell. The Reverend Green moved to Florida, where he died in 1857."

The old Green home is in Blackville, South Carolina about ten miles Northeast of Barnwell, South Carolina. The family moved to Florida about 1853.

It is believed that William Joseph and Elizabeth are buried in a cemetery near Blounts Ferry on the Suwannee River in Florida.

The following information was obtained from an article which appeard in the Southern Genealogical Exchange Quarterly, Vol 111, Numer 17, Spring of 1961:

Family Records - Green, William Joseph, Sr.
    Dicks, Mary Elizabeth

Rev. William Joseph Green, Sr., a preacher and a planter, born about 1800, according to the U. S. Census of Beaufort County, South Carolina, taken 25 Sept. 1850, at which time he lived with his family in Prince William Parish, moved with his children and grandchildren about 1856 to what was then Columbia County, Florida, in the portion that was known as New River County in 1860 census, and by 1860 was Branford County. Some of the information on his children and grandchildren is taken from the Bethlehem Cemetery in Columbia County., a Baptist Church Cemetery, so it seem likely he was a Baptist preacher. His wife was Mary Elizabeth Dicks, born about 1808, South Carolina, and died in Florida, 21 Mar. 1876. Her husband was also born in South Carolina and died 19 July 1856.
