    Claude Coleman, Sr., 89, of Cobbtown died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home under Living Care Hospice. He was the last surviving son of the six children of Remer and Ollie Lee Rewis Coleman, and was raised at Cobbtown.

    Claude was an Army Combat veteran serving in World War II. He was wounded and captured by the German SS the day after President Franklin D. Roosevelt died. Liberation day came 60 days later when the hospital was taken over by U.S. troops.

    In the mid 1980’s, he returned to Cobbtown after retiring from U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana. Being the great fisherman he was, fish trembled at his approach. He is a member of the Connors Baptist Church and was very active in the Metter AA Group. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Mary Williams.

    Survivors are sons, Claude “Bud” Coleman, Jr. of Claxton, Curtis Blair Coleman of Hobart, IN, Craig Kenady of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Charlotte Coleman of Boston, MA; step-daughters, Bekki Muelmans of Valpo, IN and Stephanie A. Cook of Bloomingdale; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held Friday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in the Connors Cemetery.

    Pallbearers were Claude “Bud” Coleman, Jr., Craig Kenady, Gene Coleman, Andrew Anderson, Larry Johnson, Danny Collins and Mike Clark

    Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

    Survivors: sons, Claude Coleman, Jr., Curtis Blair Coleman and (step) Craig Kennedy; daughters, Charlotte Coleman, (step) Bekki Muelmans and Stephanie Cook; eight grandchildren.

    Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

    Funeral: Friday, 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

    Burial: Connors Cemetery.
