    Mrs. Pearl Frances Callahan Sloan died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Baptist Village Nursing Home in Waycross following an extended illness. Born December 7, 1916 in Waycross, Ga, she was the daughter of Albert C Callahan and Lilian Jowers Callahan. She was married to the late Rev. W. Kay Sloan, who retired from the Atlantic Coastline Railroad and was pastor of Elbethel Christian Church.

    Mrs. Sloan was a native and lifelong resident of Ware County, a graduate of Waresboro High School in 1934 and the Oglethorpe Infirmary in Macon, Georgia with a degree in nursing in 1937. She began her career as a registered nurse at Ware County Hospital.

    Then she was a nurse at the Atlantic Coastline Hospital where she met her husband. After rearing her children, she returned to nursing at Memorial Hospital where she retired in 1976.

    She is preceded in death by her sisters, Julia Callahan Wingard of North, SC and Myra Callahan Hendrix of Waycross, Ga; and brothers, Carl Callahan of Waycross, Ga; Ed Callahan of Waycross, Ga; Otis Callahan of Waycross, Ga; Harold Callahan of Folkston, Ga; and Kenneth Callahan of Waycross,Ga.

    She is survived by her sons, William M. Sloan, Jr. and wife Joan of Townville, SC; C. Wayne Sloan and wife Linda of Jacksonville, Fl; Jerry W. Sloan and wife Cheryl of Waycross, Ga; David M. Sloan and wife Kathy of Marianna, Fl; and daughter Angela Sloan King and husband David of Houston, Tx; a sister Doris Callahan Lastinger of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Michelle Sloan Jones and husband Travis of Decatur, Ga; Sonya Sloan McGough and husband Jose of San Diego, Ca; Denise Sloan of St Augustine, Fl; Renee Sloan of Marietta, Ga; Kate Sloan Tyler and husband Jared of Pensecola, Fl; Christi King Scharck and husband Taylor of Houston, Tx; Brad Lippincott and wife Bobbie of Atlanta, Ga; and Melanie Lippincott Butler of Concord, NC; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

    She was the oldest living member of Elbethel Church. The family will receive friends at Miles-Odum Funeral Home Thursday evening, January 30 from 6 to 8 pm.

    Funeral services will be Friday morning, January 31 at 11 am at Elbethel Church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
