    Mrs. Ouida Emma Miles Nettles, 88, of Lake City, FL., passed away on August 26, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Jackson & Emma Blackwelder, and her two husbands, Elwood E. Miles & Seth H. Nettles. Mrs. Nettles had lived in Columbia County for the past 88 years.

    On a long, cold, winters night February 4, 1921, the 8th child out of 10 brothers and sisters with red hair. She was always told the story of a baby colt born the same night with red hair also. Later in life Mrs. Ouida named that colt "Tramp". Mrs. Ouida loved people, life, her church and most of all her family. All of her life she has been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and has held many positions within the church family. From her beginnings as a Song Director for the Primary Class when the church was located on Alachua Street, to being the Young Women's President & Relief Society President, then moved on to serve a full time mission as a Matron in the Atlanta, Georgia Temple. She was also a proud member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and the UDC ( United Daughters of the Confederacy)

    She is survived by her sons, Milo David Miles (Virginia) & Neil E. Miles ( Sheriden), daughter, Sylvia M. Thomas all of Lake City, FL., sister, Mary Jane Cutler of Salt Lake City, UT. 9 grandchildren, Mark L. Thomas (Kimberly) of Jennings, FL., Devin H. Thomas, of Lake City, FL., Troy D. Miles (Betsy) of Gainesville, FL., Amy Tompkins (David) of Lake City, FL., Richard E. Miles (Prissy) of Lake City, FL., Olivia Nydam (Scott) of Charleston, SC., & Wendy M. Miles of Lake City, FL. 13 precious great grandchildren, Kurt, Christopher, Keil, Marley, Mattie, Miles, Andrew, Jordan, Mason, Emma, Gracie, Audrey, & Ariana also survive.

    Her favorite words "I Love You", were said to everyone she knew and her sweet spirit was felt by all. Her last two years were spent in Lake City Health Care Center with Alzheimer's disease. She was loved very much and will be deeply missed by those who's lives she touched with her presence. Thank You for your kind words and gentle deeds in this our time of loss.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Nettles will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Neil E. Miles officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Union County. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, August 28, 2009 at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S. HWY 441, Lake City. (386) 752-1954.
