    Edward William Dedelow
    January 13, 1943 - April 27, 2012

Edward "Ed" Dedelow of Winter Springs, Florida, died in his home of cancer on April 27, 2012, at the age of 69.

Ed was born January 13, 1943, in Hammond, Indiana, to William and Helen Dedelow. He was the youngest of four children: sister Gayle and brothers Duane and Jim. He grew up in Hammond and graduated from Morton High School in 1961. Ed served in the National Guard after high school, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, in 1968.

Standing 6'4" and weighing 240 lbs, Ed enjoyed being the "big guy" and played many sports including football. He also loved snow skiing and hit the slopes in Utah nearly every year until just before his passing.

In his professional life, Ed was a certified public accountant (CPA) and building contractor. You still can find dozens of his award-winning custom homes in the Tuskawilla development of Winter Springs. He was also a proud member of the Jaycees and kept in touch with friends he made there throughout his life.

Ed relished the opportunity to discuss politics and economics, but for him, it was more than just idle talk. He published a book in 2009 on his economic theories, "Why Capitalism Works and Government Doesn't." In 2010, he ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Congressional District 24. Though disappointed in his bid for the U.S. Congress, Ed still saw value in having participated in the electoral process and having made his voice heard on the issues of the day.

Ed met Carolyn Anne Drury while attending BYU, and they were married in 1968. They moved to Orlando and eventually to Winter Springs into a home on Arabian Avenue that Ed built. They already had five children when they decided one more would be good. But one more became triplets, bringing the total to eight children: Kellie, William, Scott, Bonnie, Ryan, Beverly, Todd and Kristine.

Ed was especially proud of his children and their accomplishments. Many of them played high school and collegiate-level sports, seven earned college degrees, and two fulfilled two-year missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ed often was found attending their many games, competitions, performances and special church functions. He also enjoyed many road trips with them in the family's 12-passenger van. As his children grew and left home, "Dear Old Dad," never missed a chance to host a barbecue and pool party for them and his 15 grandchildren whenever they were in town. Though Ed and Carol eventually divorced after more 30 years of marriage, they never let their differences keep them from attending family events and were welcome guests in each other's homes.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents William and Helen. He is survived by his three siblings, eight children and 15 grandchildren. A viewing will be held for Ed at the Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home at 501 East Mitchell Hammock Rd., Oviedo, Fla., on Wednesday, May 2, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 350 W. Artesia St., Oviedo, Fla., on Thursday, May 3 at 11 a.m., followed by internment at All Faiths Memorial Park at 1390 Park Dr., Casselberry, Fla.
