Hi Patricia, Debbi and Floyd, Here are the pictures I told you that I would send. My grandson came over tonight and taught me how to send photo's. Floyd, He also showed me how to pull off the information that you send to me. What a lot of work you have done. I Thanks so much for all the information. It is a huge gift and I truly appreciate the information. Julius Jessie Compton first marriage was to Florence Rebeca Stone. Jerry William Compton, my Dad, was their son. Julius Compton's second marriage was to Nora Smith. They did not have any children. Nora had a son. I have his name written down. I will look for it. Julius Jessie died July 17, 1956. This information is from his death certificate that I received the other day. They have his birth date as 17 January 1878. They listed his father's name as Jerry Compton and his mother's name as Callie Wilburn. I think that Nora may have been mixed up on the names of his mother and father. . I will send all a copy of the certificate. I will also send additional genealogy information on my dad, Jerry William Compton. He was born the 18th of October, 1913. Died in Provo, Utah on the 15th of July 1996. I will send a list of his marriages and children. Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Once again, I want each of you to know that I am very thankful to know that I have cousins that I didn't know about. I am thankful for each one of you. Great Aunt (Toots)Eura Mae Graham/Duncan said that she was told J H COMPTON was a violin musician.
The J H Compton farm was south of Alba, TX across Simpkins Creek and in the woods. Located on the Compton farm was the family cemetery. A loathsome Mr. Jones, who bought the property, destroyed the Compton Cemetery. In the late 1950's, he bulldozed the graves and added a pond. The present day owner is his son, who seems to be a decent person. I guess he didn't take after his father. This information came from Saundra Bulge who lives on the adjoining Simpkins farm. Saundra descends from the original Simpkins Grantor and she believes the Simpkins and Compton families settled there about the same time. She remembers the Compton Cemetery because she could see it from their meadow and as a child, she used to play around the headstones. They were large and decorative headstones and she thought there were maybe 10 or so. She sent to me a picture of the only surviving headstone, which is broken in half. It is from the grave of Jesse Compton b.25 March 1807 and d. 8 Jan 1877. May their souls rest in peace.
It was because of the sadness in my Grandma Graham's eyes that I became interested in family research. I sat on the floor beside her sturdy black shoes and listened to the tales of her youth. When I asked about her parents, she told me about being orphaned as a young child and couldn't remember anything about her parents. The sadness was there and I felt it strongly. The desire to find out what happened to her parents, my GGGrandparents left an indelible impression on me, an eight-year-old girl. About 10 years ago, I finally started my search for answers for sweet Grandma Graham. It was a bittersweet find, that bothers me still and sometimes I wish that I had not found them. May the loathsome Mr. Jones find no peace for callously destroying the final resting-place of my beloved Compton family.

Dr. Julius Wilbourn listed with this notation." Been practicing medicine in Hunt Co., for the past five years. " Librarian Carol Taylor said there is no date listed. She knew the two researchers who copied this information for their book and felt they were most through with their research and they would not have omitted the date. 5/5/00 Clerks Office at the Courthouse would not check the dates for this entry. Try calling back in hopes of reaching another person that is a real human being.

The information on Hunt County Tax Rolls and Land Deeds were copied from original records on microfilm and is in the possession of P.Cruthirds.
Hunt County Tax Rolls: The first year taxes were assessed for Hunt Co. was in 1846.
The first time our Julius WILLBURN appears is in 1863 with 500 acres, Original Grantee is Wm. R. Duvall. Our Wilbourn name is spelled various ways: WILBURN, WILLBURN, WILBORN, WILBOURNE, WELBURNE, WILBORNE, WELLBURN and surprisingly enough, for the majority of the time it is spelled WILBOURN. Julius appears in consecutive years, increasing his acreage, until 1892.
In addition to the land tax the property is taxed for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, carriages and wagons. Starting in 1882 there are no longer sheep or goats and the property contains pretty much the same as previous years until 1892. Sons of Julius, John Ira and Andrew J. appear on the Tax Rolls until 1889 with brother W. H. last appearing in 1890. The last year J H COMPTON, (Delphia Caroline's husband) appears on the Rains Co., Tax Roll is 1887. In 1888 J H COMPTON'S property is referred to as "Est. of J H COMPTON."

In the book History of Hunt County there is an entry dated 23 Oct. 1869 for _____ Wilburn. He is listed as a charter member of the Fred Ende Lodge #87 International Order of Odd Fellows, located near Lone Oak, Texas, about 15 miles from Greenville. Since there are no other Wilbourns in Hunt County at that time this is probably our Julius.

Aunt Toots said that after the death of Louise,Julius remarried and lived close to Emory and Alba, TX in Rains County.

Louise MILLIORN/WILBOURN died at age 78 in 1901. Julius WILBOURN remarried at some point after and moved to Rains Co., TX living close to Alba, Texas (Information from Aunt Toots GRAHAM/DUNCAN.) We have a photograph that is taken the year before Julius died (1903) with location as Gail, Texas There is a photograph of John I Wilbourn that belongs to Pat Panko and I wonder if this couldn't be our John Ira Wilbourn, Julius's son and Grandma Graham's beloved Uncle John Wilbourn. Julius probably named this son for his brother, John Wilkes Wilbourn. Aunt Toots is going to try and find out if there is a Wilbourn cousin she used to know in San Angelo who is related to us and she used to correspond with some years back (May 2000).
