De La Cruz, Oscar A., M.D., passed away suddenly on July 6, 2014 at home where he lived for 38 years with his wife of 61 years, Georgia, in North Tustin.

He was born in Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica in 1927 to Don Jose Ignacio De La Cruz-Infante and Dona Herminia Garcia-Carazo de De La Cruz. He was the middle child of six; Edgar, twins Jorge and Mario, Oscar, Fernando and the only surviving sibling and sister, Olga.

Oscar's grammar school years were spent in Puntarenas, a Pacific port. He graduated from the Liceo de Costa Rica, went on to the University of Costa Rica to earn a degree in pharmacy. His brother, Edgar, graduated from Harvard Medical School during WWII, and encouraged Oscar to do the same. Oscar attended Georgetown University for pre-med, and practice English, before entering Harvard on scholarship. He graduated in the Class of '59. He Interned at Passavant Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore Maryland. His residency was in Ears, Nose and Throat at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. The Farrior brothers ran the residency program in the specialty Oscar wanted. At the time during the Cuban revolution, foreigners couldn't work in Florida. So Oscar embarked on a search for a practice. Although his search took him to Pennsylvania and Maryland then to California; in Santa Ana, his meeting with Dr. John Wilcox and Dr. Robert Reeves went so well, that he cancelled all other interviews and joined Santa Ana Ear, Nose and Throat Inc on 17th Street in Santa Ana, where they all enjoyed a long prosperous relationship. They all retired in their time from the prosperous practice, Oscar being the last in 1990.

Oscar and his wife Georgia enjoyed his children, E. Ivonne, Robert and Michelle De La Cruz. Over the years he accomplished everything he wanted to in life; becoming a pilot, celebrating graduations, and family vacations to Europe, Asia, South America, Egypt, Greece, Turkey and Malta, basically anywhere with ancient ruins and older history. Oscar retired happily in 1990 and spent the remainder of his life having a siesta, enjoying his family and grandchildren.
