Rev. George Joseph Mills, age 84 of Jacksonville, FL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 15, 2016.

George was born August 24, 1931 in Deland, FL, the son of George Jefferson Mills and Mary Lee Kemp Mills.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps with service in the Korean War. George was a dedicated community servant as a policeman and he retired following 20 years as chief of security for FCCJ. He pastured several churches in Georgia and Florida before being called to Yukon Baptist Church on December 3, 1978 where he served until his passing.

He was a talented artist, poet, and musician, but mostly George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife Doris Mills; his daughter Susan Spence (Stephen); his sons David Mills (Cindy), Stephen Mills (Jackie), and Daniel Mills (Ruth); also 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; his sister Elizabeth Wheeler, and brother John W. "Bill" Futch; also many other loving family members and friends.

His family was his joy, his church was his home, and his Lord his salvation. Funeral services in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday January 19, 2016 at Yukon Baptist Church, 4552 120th St, Jacksonville, FL 32244. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 AM until the hour of service on Tuesday morning. George will be laid to rest at Jacksonville Memory Gardens following the service.
