    William Edward “Bill” Sheppard Sr., 71, of Hollister, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Putnam Community Medical Center.

    He was born in Lumber City, Ga., and his family moved to Putnam County 60 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and worked for 42 years with Central States Diversified as a lead bag adjuster. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson and an avid fisherman.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Luler Mae Sheppard; sisters, Wanda Sheppard and Alice Taylor; brothers, Roscoe, Robert, John Henry, Emory and Clayton Sheppard.

    Surviving him are his devoted wife of 50 years, Nettie Sheppard; son, William Edward “Eddie” Sheppard Jr.; daughters and spouses, Doris Tate, Fay and Mike Tyre, and Glenda Brown; 12 grandchildren, Thomas, Greg, A.J., J.J., Sky, Dwayne, Dustyn, Lacy, Charley, Rebecca, Cierra and Coy; great-grandchildren, C.J, Ethan, Alise and Logan; sister, Linda Hutchinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Karen, Troy and Wanda, Erving and Anita, Reece and Kitty Sheppard and Jane and Pat Kemp.

    Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka, with the Rev. Charles Litzell and the Rev. L.D. Osteen officiating. Burial will follow in Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin, with the U.S. Army conducting military honors.
