LEXINGTON - Funeral service for William Francis Phillips, 85, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with inurnment in the columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York Place, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Mr. Phillips died Sunday, February 20, 2005. Born in Sumter on November 4, 1919, he was a son of the late Lucius Bellinger Phillips and Honoria Logan Lang "Miss Honor" Phillips. He served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during WW II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Mr. Phillips was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his first wife, Iva Nell Grooms Phillips; brother, Logan Lang Phillips; and sisters, Mary P. Britton and Elizabeth P. Hair.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hipp Phillips; daughters, Nancy Phillips Hughes, Frances Phillips Hoffman and Julia Phillips Gardner; sister, Honoria P. Fenstermacher; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
